Ok... So I want to do another Tri and soon. I am considering the B.O.D. Yes it is an Oly but the next Sprint in my area is full and tho I will show up in hopes of getting one of the 50 race day slots I am not holding my breath.

My log is missing a ton of stuff. I will do better in the future I promise.

However, to be perfectly honest I have never covered that distance on the bike. 20 Miles on pancake flat roads is my longest to date. I do and can however cover the run which I am doing 3 times a week @ 10k. The swim is also very doable I am usually over 2k meters in the pool. Can do a 1650 no rest in 34 mins. I am totally gassed after that though.

My question is am I totally kidding myself that I can do the Oly? I have 40 days left if I decide to go including taper time. I would be happy to just go grind it out but do NOT want to injure myself.

You can do the swim and run so I'd say you will finish the race with a little bit of mental toughness and solid training over the next month.

I'd say yeah. The bike is the most doable with the least risk, going from 20 miles flat to 40K in five weeks would be no problem.

I'd want to work on th swim some more too, if 1650 leaves you "totally gassed" you may want to be better prepared.

If you can handle the swim and the run, then I don't think there is any reason you couldn't get the bike up to Oly distance. For me, the bike has always seemed like the easiest to improve upon.

Sure you can do it.  Better up that bike fitness as much as you can though or you will suffer on that run.  Get some bricks in.  I'd aim for a 15/3 and then a couple of 20/4 bricks with a couple of longer rides in the 30 to 40 range if you can between now and the race.  You have 4 solid weeks of build before you need to take it easy a little so you can definitely do it.

Just slow down on the swim or work on it alot the next couple weeks.  Take 36 and fresh over 34 and toasted any day.  If time is an issue, I'd vote for higher bike volume than swim at this point assuming you are already comfortable in an open water setting to the point where finishing the distance doesn't scare you.  If it is that intimidating then better to work alot on it and up the confidence level.

my 2 cents..

Are you running three 10ks each week? Or are you running a total of 10k's during one week? If you are running three 10k's each week, and you can swim 1650 without stopping (recently), have biked 20 miles (recently I hope?), then I think the Oly is doable without risking injury.

You might even have fun.

Seriously...You will have no problems-Stop worrying about it and keep training for a few weeks...Good luck!

An Oly is not a big deal-If it was a HI I would say more training!

I am running 10K a shot on Mon, Weds and Fri... Optionally if I am pressed for time on Weds I will do 30 mins on the bike trainer hop off and run 4 miles.

The last time I swam 1650 was last week. Water is my thing I am part fish... Not a fast fish but part fish, ok so nothing I do is fast.... YET... On Saturdays I have been doing a mile OWS at La Jolla cove.

So I can afford to cut swim volume for bike time.

My standard bike is either a 20 mile loop Tues and Thurs or minimum 1hr on the trainer (tho the trainer makes me crazy). All of it small chain ring high cadence 90RPM+. I average 16-17mph without gassing myself on the road and 18-19mph on the trainer.

I have a 35 mile route set up for the bike that I am going replace my usual 20 mile loop with to follow up my Sat OWS. Or is a mile OWS Sat AM then 35 miles on the bike Sat afternoon over doing it?

Thanks for the input...

If water was the issue I'd say no, but since it isn't I say give it a go, train, and slog through the bike and run.

Get some climbing into your bike training.  The course at Bonelli has some climbing which you'll repeat over 3 loops.  It's not bad, but if you've only ever trained on flats then it will challenge you that much more.  The run is mostly flat with just a couple of minor hills.  Keep training and do it -- you'll be fine.

When I did my first Oly, I had never run that distance before. But I regularly swam and biked the distance. I did fine. I'm sure you will too.

I am in basically the same situation as you. First Olympic is Sept. 13. Only worried about thebike portion, def. the worst part for me. But, I plan to tough it out and go for it. That is what this sport is about. Challenging yourself and overcoming mental and physical challenges. Pain is temporary, right? If we wern't all a little crazy on here we would stick with bowling!
