Subject: 2007 Giant TCR C0 or 2009 Cervelo S1?
Hello All,

I went in yesterday to try out the Cervelo S1. It felt awesome compared to my low end alu bike I ride now. It was definitely aero, although a little on the stiff side. Beautiful bike and until yesterday THE ONE.

My dad, an avid cyclist, insisted I try a carbon framed bike before I buy. Dang it! Wish I hadn't listened to his advice. LOL. So anyways, I tried the Giant TCR C0, which is a beautiful carbon bike with DA compo, Mavic race wheels/tires, and carbon crank. It was so smooth glided up a super steep hill like I was hardly trying.

Needless to say, I'm confused. My distance of choice is the 1/2 IM distance and some century rides as well. Love the 100K distance rides. Like going fast and pushing hard. Hit major hills on every training ride because of where I live. Plan to throw on some Syntace C2 clip ons.

Any advice or thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Jared

I ride the Giant TCR C2 and really like it. I'm not the greatest up hiller, but it blows by most folks on the downhills. It's fast!

How can you determine if the TCR is good uphill or downhill???  I don't get that .......

I'd actually reverse what you said based on personal experience and knowledge of the bike.  The TCR frame (even the regular one and not the Advanced) is a great climbing bike because it is stiff and light.  It is NOT as great of a descending bike because the steering is a little on the steep and twitchy side.  Yes, it still descends well, but the faster steering can be a bit for newer riders to handle.

And yes, I had a C Zero and loved it .........

BUT, since you are looking for something to race tris on I would probably lean toward the S1 more than the TCR.  If you were looking to road race more I'd say TCR hands down.

No experience with the Giant but I have a S1 and love it. Very responsive and fine for longer rides. Just my .02 cents but the S1 can be set up as a quick road bike or for 1/2IM / IM distance. I only had one bike to buy so went for the S1 and haven't regretted it at all.

Well guys,

Thanks for your input. The Cervelo is a nice bike. It felt a little rigid to me when compared to the TCR C0. I took the Giant out for a 25K ride and decided it was the one for me. I've changed out the seat post to get a better angle and am using clip on C2 aeros. The shop was really professional and helped me set the bike up so I am comfortable in both the Aero and road positions. The guys is FIST certified and took over 1 1/2 hours getting me all sized and measured including video taping me and using computer programs etc. I feel quite confident with my purchase.

Anyways, thanks again for your pointers and have a great finish to your Tri-season. One more 1/2 IM to go for me and then back to the drawing board for 2010.

Cheers,

Jared
