The Bear might clarify this as he's a USAT official, but I belive you can NOT have the pacer beeping thingy on. It's distracting to other runners and, frankly, just annoying as all heckfire.

Yeah, turn the pace beep off! Someone in Timberman had it turned on and I believe everyone commented to her how annoying it was

What IS the pace beep?? My Garmin does not beep.....but would this pace beep thingy be helpful in training??

On some of 'em there's a beastie that you can set to be a metronome and it'll beep at you at 90 bpm. If you want to maintain a cadence you can set it to whatever you believe will give you the best run.

I'm not sure what a "good run" is as I've never had one so I don't tend to use one.

I have my Garmin set to sound at 1 mile intervals and also if my pace drops below a certain rate.  Just a quick beep and it is done.  I didn't realize that you can set it ala metronome. That would be kind of annoying

at the forced information meeting at NOLA 70.3 this past spring, they actually mentioned the no beepy thing on the garmins. Of course, how would they have a clue if someone had it to beep every mile is anyones guess. I'd probably want to clobber someone that had it set to 90bpm.

Yes you can wear them.I have used mine in a few training runs (specifically speed work) to set a minimum speed. If I drop below, it beeps until I get back up.I know during a race, you cannot do that. The 1mi chime I "believe" is fine...but that's for a USAT official to determine.

No USAT rule that I'm aware of addresses the beep thingie. But NAS (IM-branded races) has rules above and beyond USAT rules. Another example is no naked torso, allowed by USAT but not by NAS.
