Whats the difference between a protein shake for recovery and say the powerbar/clifbar recovery drink (chose this brand for lack of knowledge on the subject).  Do these other endurance nutrition companies have ther things incuded into them that goes beyond a ballance of al 3 types of protiens (Whey, soy and egg i forget the real name of it).

Thanks

Typically, the "recovery drinks" have a mix of about 1 part protein for every 4 parts carb.  They typically include some vitaims and other "nutrients."

Good info.  Has anyone experimented with making their own recovery/post work out drink?  Please share if you have any formulas you can share.

After reading an insightful passage about the recovery benefits of coffee after a workout, for my morning sessions I'll save a little joe to mix in my concoctions. It is usually a different ratio of nutrients and ingredients depending on what I have on hand or what activity I was doing, but it typically goes:

- Milk filled 2/3 the size of cup.
- Whey protein scoop (or half) mixed in.
- Top off with coffee

It's quick, easy and affordable. The brand name drinks are just too costly!

chocolate milk. one cup has about 33g of carbs and 8g of protein (your ideal 4:1 ratio) two cups and youre good to go, well based on your weight.  then have a meal a couple hours later.
