So this weekend I have a long ride on the schedule that I don't plan on missing.  The wife is ok with traveling a bit...if we need hotel she can chill at the spa.  I just need to get away from all this smoke.  I have woken up the pat two days with lots of congestion and a bit of sore throat.

I am thinking San Diego...any other somewhat local destinations that are safe distance away from the smoke?  Santa Barbara is another option...not sure what the weather patterns are looking like.  Wouldn't want to chase the smoke...even though winds now seem non existent.

super clear air in the bay area...and it is a mecca of riding...and lots of great spas and sites~

my daughter lives in San Diego and she said it was gorgeous on her ride in today...she rides north along the coast....

Santa Barbara is great. There is some epic riding, especially if you like to climb.
Not so crowded as SD. The weather is good also... very cool along the coast and no smog/smoke.

I bailed, too -- drove through the fire zone across the 210 and up the 5.  Air clear once you hit Castaic.  Have fun!  Destination rides are great.

Solvang is not too bad a drive, maybe another hour or so past Santa Barbara, and has terrific riding (plus great wine).

I did a fun trip this spring, rode the train up to San Luis Obispo and took three days (~40-60 miles per day) riding down to Santa Barbara, then took the train home from there.  Train is a great way to get your bike up north.

Solvang is probably the best for destination...    most other places don't have a whole lot of riding in the immediate vicinity where your wife can hang out.  You can do the Solvang century or metric century route.
