Subject: Nobel price for triathlons Back in the 1990s there was a guy that won the Noble Pize for economics because of his research that concluded that people buy with their heart/emotions and then later justify with their head. Now, this seems like common sense to me and I only found the story interesting because he won a Nobel Prize for that. We can easily see someone buying a Hummer and then coming home with it and justifying why he bought it. Anyway, I think IM/HIM sign-up is kinda the same thing for many of us. We see the race on IM Live, we read race reports and the logs of other BTers who have done the race and we sign up with our heart. Later, we have to justify the 'purchase' with our head. The same principle applies to bikes I suppose. Why does a MOP/BOPer AGer need a $3000 bicycle? So we buy with our heart and justify with our heads. OK, if they ever offer a Noble prize for triathons, you guys be sure to nominate me for this incredible insight! :-) ~Mike |
