Subject: Nobel price for triathlons

Back in the 1990s there was a guy that won the Noble Pize for economics because of his research that concluded that people buy with their heart/emotions and then later justify with their head.

Now, this seems like common sense to me and I only found the story interesting because he won a Nobel Prize for that.  We can easily see someone buying a Hummer and then coming home with it and justifying why he bought it.

Anyway, I think IM/HIM sign-up is kinda the same thing for many of us.  We see the race on IM Live, we read race reports and the logs of other BTers who have done the race and we sign up with our heart.  Later, we have to justify the 'purchase' with our head.

The same principle applies to bikes I suppose.  Why does a MOP/BOPer AGer need a $3000 bicycle?  So we buy with our heart and justify with our heads.

OK, if they ever offer a Noble prize for triathons, you guys be sure to nominate me for this incredible insight!  :-)

That entire award is a joke.  I would take the cash but I would be embarrased to receive anything which which associated myself with the "Nobel Peace Prize."

They don't just give them for "Peace"

Incidently, who was it that you didn't like that got the prize for peace?

The Nobel Peace prize is intended for "Peace" regarless of what they actually do with it now.  Yes, I am well aware that there are additional Nobel prizes but one is specifically for "Peace" so when you give it to Al Gore for Global Warming, it's a joke.

TV, RR's and logs.... not me.  When I heard they had free beer and no changing tents so lots of hot European women running around naked in transition at Switzerland I signed up.

Either way your theory is correct,  I did sign up with my heart.

The theory is incorrect IMO.  You justify the purchase with blood, sweat and tears.  If you justify it in your head and dont do the work, you havent justified squat, just bought yourself a one way ticket to Shuffletown.
