Is it safe? What is the best route? I was planning on riding down legacy up to plano around 6:30 or 7.

Legacy from Eldorado all the way to DNT is a decent ride, 2-3 lanes the whole way, and a few good long stretches between traffic lights.  I'd be home by 8:30 at the latest because there are a ton of really dark places in Frisco (no street lights).
