Not that this applies to me, but just curious. What type of each of these would you buy?

Bike?
Wetsuit?

I would buy MIT a new wind tunnel and super computing cluster and give them a huge grant to start a research group to design me the perfect bike. Then I would buy off the WTC and force them to ban wetsuits at all M-dot races.

or I could just spend all the money on staying at home and training, buy a used $200 bike, learn to actually swim and beat all of you with your super fancy equipment.

Even if money wasn't an obstacle, I don't think I'd go through the trouble to change what I'm using:  P2C+Jet6/disc.  But I would add a power meter.

ETA: I'd also probably stick with my de soto wetsuit, but it would be fun to try a few others.

X2, except a HED3 front w/disc. Don't think I could find a faster bike for me, and even if money wasn't an obstacle i could find better things to do with it than waste it by chasing the margin.

Don't use a wetsuit enough to want anything more than the one I have.

A Specialized Shiv or a Felt DA frame/fork.  SRAM Red front and rear der. and shifters, Zero G brakes, Zipp Vuma Chrono cranks in 180mm with a 54/42 and ceramic BB, Speedplay X-1 ti pedals, Zipp sub-9 tubie disc with PT with ceramics, Dura Ace 11-21 cassette, Zipp 1080 tubie front with ceramics, Conti Comp. tubies, Visiontech carbon base bar and aero extensions, Visiontech brake levers.

Yeah, that would set me back a nice easy $12 - 13k.

Wetsuit?  A nice simple Desoto T1 First Wave.  Best suit out there imho.

You mean BIKES (plural).

Road     Colnago C-50 with Sram Red and 32h Mavic Open Pro wheels just to be the retro grouch
Mtn       Santa Cruz Superlight with Sram X.X, Sid Team, and again 32h wheels King hubs
Tri         Look 596 with Sram Red and 808's...just because it would look really cool
Cross    Seven Tsunami with Sram Red

Wetsuit - I would just get something mid-range that fits nice.

Blashpemy.

A C-50 should NEVER be equipped with anything but Super Record and Campy wheels.

I have my dream bike, it's custom made, so exactly what I have for a bike. Maybe some different wheel though, but I have excellent climbing wheels on their now, so I guess I'd like a couple of sets.

Wetsuit. Well mine was $8, so anything else? Really though, it probably doesn't matter. It works and I can swim, I don't know if any wetsuit would make swimming better. Maybe it would.

I'm in the same boat.    I love my P2 w/ HED aerobars, H3/Jet Disc, Quarq/Garmin 705.  Livin the Dream.

Wetsuit: XTerra Vendetta.

Bike: Scott Plasma 3, Zipp 1080/Super 9 disc, Quarq Cinqo, SRAM Red... AND for tooling around town, a 2010 Pinarello Dogma Carbon with Super Record 11 and Lightweight wheels.

(edit) Now I can't stop daydreaming....

I don't know if I'd spend all that much since I'm such a novice and wouldn't want to look like any more of an idiot than I already do.

But, if money were no object I'd never work again and spend tons on personal trainers and coaches and such.

I would hire a coach and work on the engine.  Oh, and quit my job (if money was really not an obstacle).

If it really weren't an obstacle, you could work on the engine AND ride a nice bike.

Why do people think that having nice equipment and "working on the engine" are mutually exclusive? You really CAN buy a nice bike and train hard on it... I've seen it done quite a few times.

I'd keep my DA, but get an H3 front and Jet60/PT/wheelcover for the back.

For the road, I'd like a nice lightweight set of wheels for my Madone, which I'd keep as well.

I'm in the fortunate group of those who were able to scavenge and build their bikes for not a lot of dough, hence no fancy wheels yet.

I'm happy with my Xterra and the customer service I've had with it, so I'd get whatever their best new suit is.

You're right of course.  So I'll quit the job, hire the coach and  buy a shiney new QRoo !!!
