Subject: Need New Wheels....my rear wheel is thrashed!
I'm trying to find a decent and inexpensive set of roade bike wheels.  I had a flat with 5 miles left in my first Sprint Tri on Labor Day and the rear wheel is shot since I rode on the flat.  Yeah, I didn't have the gear to fix it.

Size is 700 X28c.  I was wondering if there is a better size, maybe a 700 X 23c or something that might be a little more streamlined and any good online sights to buy from.  I a bit new so not sure what sizes are available and/or going out of style.

My road bike is inexpensive so I am not looking to spend a fortune or I might as well buy a whole new or used bike.

Thanks for any input.

Depends how much you want to spend and what qualities you want out of the tire. A good general purpose tire with excellent flat resistance is the Continental Ultra Gatorskin. Good place to order them online is http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=Y1320. They come in 23mm and 25mm widths.

Every cyclist should have the tools and the know-how to at least change a flat.

If he rode 5 miles on a flat, the wheel just might be trashed, or at least need truing.

Hit up your LBS (if you have one) and have them give the wheel a once-over. Then you can get a new tire there as well.

If not, I like www.cambriabike.com, www.pricepoint.com, and www.probikekit.com for starters.

Thanks for the replies and links.  I agree...I will be getting the tools to have with me for my next flat....hopefully that will be a long while before I have one again!

The wheel is trashed or the tire is trashed?
