So I'm training for the NYC Marathon, which I ran last year in 3:23. I'm a 25 year old male, 160 pounds. I had some patellar tendinitis in my knee earlier this year which I took care of by increasing flexibility and hip strength. Yet, now I'm experiencing relatively minor pain in the high hip socket area on both sides, just an inch or two below my waistline. The best internet diagnosis I can come up with is hip bursitis. I'm already taking anti-inflammatories for preventative purposes with my knee. What does anyone know about this injury? How bad is it? What type of recovery process is there? Thanks so much.
Always ice, ice, ice. Also there are great stretches to do, go on line. Also, I find lying on my back and pretend I am marching, feet neutral. It is not an ab exercise, but hip excercise. Have the best time. NYC is soooo much fun. Have done it three times (ten total, nyc one of the best!)
Tennis ball! I have some hip issues on my right side and I found that rolling on a tennis ball has worked wonders. Hurts like heck at first but it feels freat afterwards. To this day I roll on a tennis ball after every run. Not sure I still need to but I do it kind of as a preventative measure.
