I really wanted to take the AnnArbor Chi Running class but couldn't due to my kids' soccer schedule.  My husband says that I look funny when I run and I keep getting injured!!!!

Anyway, I was considering having Sarah Young (who is certified to instruct Chi running).  Has anyone taken a class from her??  And if anyone is interested, I wouldn't mind having my private lesson turn into a class so I could learn from others (and it would be cheaper in price, of course).

Any info on Chi Running would be helpful.

Ohhh...Chi running classes?  I am interested.  I just purchased Newton running shoes that work well with the Chi running principals (so I was told).  I have the book and try to do some of the stuff, but I am sure the class would be very helpful.  Keep me in the loop!

I am going to contact the lady and set up a time and date for the initial 2.5 hour long class.  It would be $75 a piece if there were at least three of us in the class.  ($90 if there are just two of us)

If there are any requests for a certain time or day of the week, let me know.  (I probably will do this ASAP though.)

I will post on this thread  that I have a date and have those interested PM me.  How does that sound?

I'm interested and could probably recruit at least a few others from the west side.  Availability is slim until mid to late October though.  Keep us posted!

I have been in contact with one of the Chi Running instructors in Michigan.  It has been a bit of a hassle but he is trying to put together a class in Oakland County.  When I find out more info, I will let you know.  He was looking at the weekend of Nov 7th.

There is a class in Adrian, MI on October 10th which is lead by a different instructor.  If you want that info, PM me and I can email you the attachment.  I can't attend October 10th due to a camping trip.

I have been having a bad time with my running.  I really need someone to evaluate my form.  If anyone knows anyone knowledgeable, let me know ASAP!

I have also contacted an instructor who lives in Sarnia.  (I hadn't thought to check Canada!)  He has run several marathons including Boston.

If I may just go ahead and set up a meeting with him.   I will let others know if they want to join me.  I haven't heard his rates yet but am hoping something will work out so I can one day run Boston!!

There is a female from Birmingham who teaches the course but she doesn't have a running background so I was surprised that she is qualified to teach it.  I would really like my instructor to have some marathon experience.

I know of a running store in Lapeer that has a proper running form class. I just took it on Wednesday and learned a lot. There website is www.elitefeetrunning.com. The guy who teaches it is Dustin and he also owns the store. I know it is a far drive for a lot of you but the 1st class is free and the second one is only $20. I would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks to both of you for the info!  My goofy work internet won't let me on the Lapeer running store's sight!

I am checking all options and just want someone to help me run injury free! Is that too much to ask?!

It would be great if we put all the different resources Michigan offers on this sight for everyone to utilize!

The web address for the good form running class is goodformrunning.com.
First session is free.  Second one costs $20.  I plan to sign up for this in the very near future.  A brief description is below:

"Running faster, more efficiently, and injury free is what runners strive for. With a focus on proper mechanics, Good Form Running aims to help runners of all ages and abilities achieve those goals. Similar to going on a diet though, if it isn't easy it doesn't last, so GFR is designed with simpicity as the primary goal. Making an incremental change can have a monumental effect on the enjoyability of your exercising.

Not a runner? We will talk about how certain basic principles apply to both walking and running, even if that just means walking around the mall or walking from your car to work. GFR addresses posture, running on hills, how to use gravity to help you, what part of your foot to land on, being barefoot, walking efficiently, footwear, and staying injury free. We'll use video to analize the gait of participants, and questions are encouraged. Having done these clinics for nearly two years now, and having received continuous postive feedback, we are confident that Good Form Running can have a positive effect on your exercising too."

I couldn't remember where I saw this until now.  This was posted on our GREYHOUND forum.

For anyone interested in learning how to run the proper way or fine tune their running mechanics, the New Balance Store in Farmington (12mile&Halsted) is hosting a 'Good Form Running Class' on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month (~1.5 hours long). It is Free of charge, you just have to sign up a head of time. Supposedly, Paul Robison (1500m Olympic athlete) and Ovi Olteanu (1500 m Olympic athlete in the 1996 Olympics) are teaching the class (not that I really remember these people). I am participating this Tuesday, so I can give you a review after. Here is more details:

Hello to all,

New Balance Farmington Hills is pleased to announce the introduction of Good Form Running, beginning Tuesday September 22nd at 6pm! Classes will be held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 6pm at the New Balance Farmington Hills store unless otherwise noted. The course includes video analysis, form instruction and individual assessment, and take home materials to help further improve your form. The class is FREE of charge and is open to all ages and abilities. So whether you're looking to run easy, run healthy, or run faster Good Form Running is the right choice. To RSVP you can call, email Daren, or stop in the store to sign up. Space is limited to 15 people per class. For more information or for questions please contact Daren DeCavitte at the number or email below. We look forward to seeing you there, and to keeping you running!

Thanks to Spartn1 and Jogo for helping.  I appreciate the info!  Just I found out that I have a stress fracture in my foot (no wonder I felt so darn awkward).  Once I can run again, I am taking a form class before I head out!!  At least these prices are reasonable.  The Chi Running people want $120+ for a few hours.  I don't mind paying $20-50.

Also, the Lapeer class looks good also.  I live in B.F.E. (i.e. Fair Haven) so anywhere I go will be a couple hour drive...

That's were I shop at.   It's clsoe to home and I like the people.  Dustin took a long time with my 8 year old fitting her into shoes.  Did you try the 5 finger shoes?

I have not tried the VFF's yet. I think I am going to be getting them in a week or two. I do really like the services they provide and the honesty they have. They are very personable.
