Total Time = 1h 14m 40s
Overall Rank = 51/299
Age Group = M34-39
Age Group Rank = 9/24
Pre-race routine:

Starbucks and peanut butter crackers
Event warmup:

200 yard swim
Swim
  • 11m 55s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt really good. Started out in the second row, closer to the left. Waited a few seconds after the buzzer sounded so that I could get a full "dive" into the water. After the third bouy, my goggles were so fogged that I couldn't see the finish. Had to tread water for a bit while I washed out my goggles.
What would you do differently?:

Spit in my goggles before the race so that they don't fog.
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Couldn't find my tri shorts, didn't want to wear my bike shorts in the swim, and I figured with just a 12 mile bike it wasn't worth the added time to put on and take off the bike shorts. Ended up just biking in my jammers which I think saved some time, both in T1 and T2.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice this. As much as I like the DeSoto, I have not had a race since I started wearing it that I was able to get out of it quickly.
Bike
  • 34m 34s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 21.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Unsure about reality of pace and distance. Never come close to biking this fast before, so if the distance was correct, I'm thrilled. Either way, I felt pretty comfortable with overall ride.
What would you do differently?:

???
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Couldn't find my stuff for what seemed like a minute but was probably only 15-20 seconds...I was in the wrong row of bikes.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a more distinguishable towel. Search the correct row.
Run
  • 24m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Happy with run time, not particularly happy with performance. Hard to explain. Didn't feel as though I was pushing it and wishing now that I had gone aa little harder, especially on the return. Was able to give a decent sprint for the last 200 yards which was good..
What would you do differently?:

Throw caution to the wind and try and run faster earlier. This is called a spint for a reason.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still learning.

Event comments:

End of season two...I think. Real happy with time, as I had hoped to go under 1:20:00 (last year's sprint of the same distances was a 1:25+) This off seson will hopefully bring a strong push of consistency on the bike and more mileage running.

I'm surprised you are disappointed with this race as it seems you posted solid splits on all three legs. Consider a drop of baby shampoo in the goggles followed by vigorous shaking in water (about 20-30 secs). This works great for me in keeping goggles clear and usually lasts 3-4 swims.  If you look at your run and bike times for this race they are in a totally in a different league from last year.  I'm not surprised but I'm definitely impressed.

BTW, I'm thinking maybe the Nations triathlon next year - September. What do you think?
