Subject: Do you train on a road or tri bike?
How much time do you spend on a road bike versus a tri bike?

I only have a road bike but am considering getting a tri bike for the 5-6 sprints and olympic distance races I do each year.

For those of you who have both, how much time do you spend on each bike?  50-50?  70-30?

When training for a specific race, do you only train with the tri bike?

i love riding my madone, but, i just got a new trek ttx, so i mostly ride that. when the newness wears off i will start riding my madone again. i like the madone plus i think each bike works different leg muscles. good all around training.

I train on my tri bike.  The only other bike that I have is a hybrid mountain bike.  I haven't had a road bike in years and don't see the need to get one.  I am a triathlete first and foremost.  I don't ride with a group so don't need to fit in with them.

Besides, I am in love with my Quintana Roo.  Tongue out

I train on my tri bike when a tri is coming up. I'm training on my road bike with a century approaching.

100% tri bike (knock on wood) I have not have low back pain since buying her and since switching from my road bike (yes, I had a professional fit on the road bike).

I use my Tri bike.  I have thought about using a road bike, but I wouldn't use it for the race so why train on it.

I ride my tri bike 99% of the time when tri training, cross bike in the fall to train for cyclocross or when weather is bad in the fall and winter, road bike at times when riding with my bike race team.

I'm more comfortable on my tri bike plus I race on tri bike not my road bike.

I just sold my road bike because once I got my P2c I never rode it.  I guess it depends on how much time you have to ride.

Not really.

To the OP.  Almost all of my training outdoors is done on the road bike.  I'll break out the TT bike for a ride or two right before the race to make sure it all works okay.  Otherwise it is the trainer bike.

Want to ride fast, train like a roadie .......

Aerodynamic design for the TT bike allows you to go faster for the same amount of effort.

In other words, it allows people to pad their workout log with faster paces.

I used to be 80%-20% in favor of my road bike. Since I got my P2 last June, I've ridden my road bike once, when the P2 was getting its aerobars changed.

I rarely ride my tribike; it is used for prerace rides (typically one short ride before the race to make sure everything is working), triathlons and TT's.  I have been on my tribike less than 15 times this season.

Mostly my Tri bike as I consider riding in aero position part of my training.  Roadie doesn't have aero bars.

Road bike mostly. Tri occasionally, until about 2 weeks before a race. Then tri only.
Tri if I am on a Ride-Run training brick or Swim-Ride brick.
Road if i ride with a buddy.

Road bike through the winter cuz it is easier to handle when snowy, more fun to ride with friends, etc. and use tri bike on the trainer. Around March when tri season is close to start I start riding tri bike most of the time.

I'm close to 50/50 for ALL my bike training.

I left my Klein (TT) on the trainer all winter and rode it outside most of May.  I rode my Javelin outside when the weather permitted until May when I switched to the Klein.  While the Javelin is newer, the Klein would be much harder to replace, so I spared it the road salt etc.

Road, tri, and MTB.

I'd say it's probably 45% road; 45% MTB; 10% tri...in season, that is. When I'm not racing regularly, I ride my tri bike a bit more.

Both absolutely.

Tri bike on country roads, alone or with my wife, with no traffic.  I'm very comfortable on it and want to keep it that way.  Road bike on hills and with groups to improve my bike handling skills and be pushed by better and faster riders.

TT on the flats and Road for the hills.  I live in the hills so if I wanna go for a quick ride from the house I jump on the roadie.  When I decide to drive to the park (from 5-60 min depending on traffic) I am always on the TT.  I think specificity is important, esp as the race nears.  The road bike is a different feel for me.
