Subject: Flats and Aero Bottles

This is probably a really stupid question. I don't have any problems changing a flat quickly on a bike. The main problem is getting the aerobottle off fast enough.  I have the bottle secured with the 2 rubberbands that came with it. It takes time to take the bottle off, set it on the ground and then put it back on the bike. It is easier to change the flat than deal with the bottles.

Is there an easy solution to this problem?

Why are you taking the aero bottle off?

It's a huge waste of time to flip the bike over to take a wheel off. Practice taking the wheels on and off without flipping the bike over. Plus it makes getting the wheel back on and seated properly easier.

Decent video. But my suggestion is to get your stuff out of your bag before taking off the wheel.

It is the back wheel. I like to stand the bike up on the  rear derailleur. If I lay the bike down (as shown in the video) everything leaks out of the aero bottle.

What's in your aerobottle that can't be replaced at next aid station within 10 miles on IM?

I just lie my bike on its side with derailuer side up if I get a flat. I also carry Pitt Stop that I would try first before trying to change my tubulars in an IM if there was not an obvious huge hole in the tire.

I go with only water in my aerobottle as it makes things less sticky. Liquid nutrition goes in water bottles on my bike so if I get a flat I don't lose that. Once I'm down a nutrition bottle I keep a spare water bottle on my bike so losing water from my aerobottle doesn't matter.
