I have seen posts on this web site where people say if it doesn't take you at least 10 minutes to get your wetsuit on, it probably doesn't fit you right. That a wetsuit should be so snug that you DO "wear yourself out" putting it on. It should not just 'slip on' like a pair of tri shorts.

Mine takes about 10 minutes to properly get it fitted on me. I used to think it was a tad snug, but now I believe it fits me perfectly.

Maybe Emilio DeSoto will chime in on this one.  I am not sure the wet suit should be that tight.  Wet suits work by allowing a thin layer of water in next to your skin, which your body heats up and it then acts as insulation.  If your suit is too tight to allow for some water flow, you're not getting the full benefit of the suit.

Your suit can also certainly be too loose. That will cause more of a drag issue and also not keep the water inside long enough to warm.

My suit does not "slip on", but it takes me a minute or two maybe.  I usually have to work the fabric up the legs a few times, but once it's over that I'm good.  My suit is sleeveless, so you could maybe add a minute for arms.   I find it provides me with the necessary warmth and doesn't get too full of water.  And I have a pretty cheap, thick suit.  I did struggle a LOT (to the point of almost quitting) trying to put it on after running.  But that probably eventually took 5-7 minutes.

That's what I'm thinkin'...ten minutes = fit properly, really?! So what can I expect to lose swim performance-wise if I can get mine on in say 5 minutes, how about 3, or 7 or better yet, what if I put it on reaallllly slooooooowwwwwllllyyyyy, do I go faster in the water?

Yeah, I get the point that "snug is better than loose", but unless the thing is acting like a sail or a bucket on a rope.....

I think the point was that if you can slip it on like a pair of shorts, it's way too big (I see a lot of this - A LOT). That's all. The 10-minutes was merely an example. I could try to go back and find the thread but I don't have the time...

If it is new, put it in the tub tonight, let it soak up some water and then hang it up try it tomorrow.  Don't try to get it over your watch 8).

Interesting. It takes me about 15-20 mins and I am not capable of putting it on by myself. But, it never feels small. It's a medium, all my tri tops and bottoms are smalls and xsmalls. I can't imagine I would need to be in a size large wetsuit. But maybe I do...

PLASTIC BAGS = KEY!

Take a plastic grocery bag, put it on your foot, stick foot through wetsuit leg = MUCH EASIER!
You can do the same for the arms.  Still got move it up your body, and that can be tough, but trust me, the plastic bags help!!

Good tip, this also applies if its the first time you have worn it in months.  Made a difference for me.  I think I put mine on n 3-4 minutes once I have practiced.
