am I missing something?

10 min at RPE 3, 10 min at RPE 5, etc... right?  I guess this would be easier to accomplish on the trainer ?

Is the discussion supposed to take up the final 10 minutes?

A "ladder" workout is one with sets that increase and then decrease in intensity and/or volume. ie. You go UP the ladder then DOWN the ladder.

RPE = Rate of Perceived Exertion.  See the Chart.  It's a scale of 0-10 where 0 is sitting on the couch eating donuts* and 10 is running for your life from a mob of flesh eating zombies who were Olympic marathoners before being zombified.

So for this workout you would do:
10 minutes running from zombies whose only exercise before being zombified was a weekly round or two of golf.
10 minutes running from zombies who hit the stairmaster a couple times a week and maybe went to a yoga class.
10 minutes running from zombies who were in your age group at your last race and finished just before you.
10 minutes running from zombies who maybe went to a yoga class and hit the stairmaster a couple times a week.
10 minutes running from zombies whose only exercise before being zombified was a weekly round or two of golf.

These examples of course take into account the loss of fitness and speed that comes with being zombified.

Simple, no?

* mmm...donuts....

Used to visualize chasing down mammoths for dinner but I think I'll try the olympic zombie mantra fro awhile. As far as the discussion goes, doesn't everyone drop 10 minutes from the windtrainer workouts? I find it refreshing to see such honesty.

My guess is the missing 10 minutes would be made up of something like 2 min. recovery between intervals....

I was just glad the missing 10 minutes wasn't an RPE 9 set in the middle!

I think it's pretty funny that some folks are still missing the 10 minutes. Granted, it took me until I was about to mount the bike when I realized that 5 ten minutes sets do not equal 60 minutes.

As to the rest between sets, this plan almost never prescribes specific rest between intervals.

Perhaps it is assuming a 5 or 10 minute warmup and or cooldown time on your own.

I would probably do that or just do 50 minutes.  It woudn't be the first time that the times don't mesh on a BT plan.  It's rare, but in every plan there are a couple workouts that the time doesn't jive.
