Best Triathlete Currently Competing. Male or Female.

Chrissie is off the charts, but best triathlete currently? No, sorry.

Given, I put Brownlee down just because he blew me away this year and the fact that I believe ITU has the most talent/competition. So to dominate like he did this year was something else. The few that can do all the distances and win would really be my pick.

Crowie.  He's a fantastic all arounder and fast at all the distances.

Wellington is good at long course only - easily demonstrated at Columbia this year where she got smoked by a lot of people, even AGers.  There are plenty of people who are better all arounders than her.  But she is completely dominant in her long course events, no question.

x2. CW and Brownlee are the most dominant triathletes at the moment. No female can match CW at the IM distance and the way Brownlee dominated the ITU circuit is probably one of the most amazing achievements in the sport given the competition.

That's a tough choice.  But Brownlee's speed is stunning and it seems that ITU has the toughest competition.

I would bet that a lot of people have not heard of Alistair Brownlee but just about everyone involved in triathlon has heard of Chrissie Wellington.  IMO Brownlee is the best at the moment.

And it appears they don't know who Crowie is either.

Craig Alexander people.  You know, the guy who actually WON Kona last year and got 2nd the year before???

Maybe you've heard of him before???

Bacon, definitely bacon. I think I am the best triathlete currently competing...at least in my household.

Def think it's down to AB or CW.  

I gave the nod to CW because in the ITU we really don't have any idea of how good a cyclist anyone really is.  We know AB is a good enough swimmer to get in the lead bike pack, and an outstanding runner, but in ITU races you can't really draw many conclusions about how good people are at the bike.

CW blows past people like they are spectators on the bike, and then runs record marathons. 

I gave the nod to Brownlee over Wellington.  Its a tough call, but Brownlee has been dominant against very tough competition, whereas there's no real rival females in the IM distance, plus Wellington lost a 70.3 this year.  She did have a top ten overall in an IM (Aus?) which is impressive.  Its almost like choosing between Tiger Woods or Roger Federer; there's no right answer.

Both Craig Alexander and Alli"star" Brownlee are top of the line at swim bike .... but their runs are what destroy the competition at T2. 

Since they are in different categ0ries you cannot rate one up against the other because Alexander would beat Brownlee in Kona, and Brownlee would win in and ITU event....

they are both my heroes! Brownlee's 29:04 10k ..... and Alexanders amazing show at last years World champiopnships are both epic performances.

Miss Wellington is awesome! 

did you see any of the Dextro world cups like Gold Coast? In that race AB was riding at the front of the pack and even working to bridge some of the early breakaways more than a few times. And in terms of drawing any conclusions about how good cyclists ITU athletes are, well look at the success of those jumping into long distance racing: Potts, Bennett, Lessing, Alexander, McGlone, Bonzzone, Jones, Reed, Carfrae just to name a few...
