Subject: Recovery week question
There was a training plan discussed a little while back that had a 4-week progressive training, then 1 week recovery, then 4 week progressive training, 1 week recovery, etc, etc.

The 4 weeks were described as:

Level 1
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4
Rest
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4
Level 5
rest
and so on and so forth...

My question is during the rest week, how much do you back off. Do you go back to week 1 (level 1) mileage, etc or do similar workouts as say your level 4, but just not as many (more rest days).

Thanks to all in advance who respond.

I would not go back to baseline.Would drop back "midway", especially on the long run or ride.eg, if you long run is 10miles, a drop back might be 7, then next week back up to 11. Would not drop back to 4 miles or whatever. These numbers are hypothetical, but you get the idea.

What does the plan in question call for, or are you designing your own?

7 miles is not recovery, recovery meesn- heart rate 1 or 2 with reduced milage.  Don't over train

dropping from a 10 mile long run to 7 would be a recovery week. That IS reduced mileage. Recovery weeks should be about 30% LESS volume than the previous training week.

Designing my own...but I liked the principles behind the plan that was discussed that I described in the OP. I just couldn't find that thread where the plan was discussed originally.

Thanks to all who responded and the 30% reduction sounds about right for the recovery week.

Thanks again!
