Subject: RE: W25-29 soooo fast this year ironlib - 2009-09-28 12:04 PM just an observation from my age group. I have been getting killed this year by girls in my age group putting up near pro times (and some putting up times that would put them top 10 pro at major events!). I'm talking mostly about 70.3 and ironman events. I had always heard that 30-34 and 35-39 were the tough and faster age groups but look at any race from this year and 25-29 has been deeper and faster than all of the other age groups. I wonder if a fast crop of girls is coming up or if this is the new toughest age group... while there are certainly very fast ladies in this AGs I unfortunately am also suspicious about some of the 70.3s times some of the participants in this AG post. As you noticed some of their times are as fast or faster than pros, yet this speeds are usually only achieved at 70.3 or big events yet their speed is not consistent with their performances at other distances and/or races with smaller fields. It is like they magically get to go much faster in races with big fields and due to the inconsistencies I can't avoid thinking it is due to drafting of the male groups starting in waves behind them. Again, more than a few are legit oustanding fast ladies but I am willing to bet many of those that all of the sudden are fast athletes would have different results if they were to start with the female pros. PS. this is not only happens in the 25-29 AG, same happens on other AGs of course... |
