just an observation from my age group. I have been getting killed this year by girls in my age group putting up near pro times (and some putting up times that would put them top 10 pro at major events!). I'm talking mostly about 70.3 and ironman events. I had always heard that 30-34 and 35-39 were the tough and faster age groups but look at any race from this year and 25-29 has been deeper and faster than all of the other age groups. I wonder if a fast crop of girls is coming up or if this is the new toughest age group...

I know they have been developing younger athletes around here. While the 30-34s are still the fastest locally, there is a very good crop of college age and even teenage athletes being developed.

There is a 16 year old boy around these parts that will many times take the overall winner out of upper 300 and lower 400 competitors in sprints. My last race a few weeks ago he was 2nd overall. His 300 yd swim was a 4:07.

I've noticed the same thing.  There are a lot more women competing in the 20 - 24 and 25 - 29 age groups than when I first started tris and they are faster.

while there are certainly very fast ladies in this AGs I unfortunately am also suspicious about some of the 70.3s times some of the participants in this AG post. As you noticed some of their times are as fast or faster than pros, yet this speeds are usually only achieved at 70.3 or big events yet their speed is not consistent with their performances at other distances and/or races with smaller fields. It is like they magically get to go much faster in races with big fields and due to the inconsistencies I can't avoid thinking it is due to drafting of the male groups starting in waves behind them. Again, more than a few are legit oustanding fast ladies but I am willing to bet many of those that all of the sudden are fast athletes would have different results if they were to start with the female pros.

PS.  this is not only happens in the 25-29 AG, same happens on other AGs of course...

Jorge-agreed that its definitely part of it, guess I didn't even really think of it. I was looking some of them up on athlinks and their olympic times aren't much faster than mine. Same with some of their running results, half marathon times and marathon times similar to mine or slower. good point. I was so blown away that I'm getting beat by 10 minutes plus by girls that have similar times at other distances.I didn't see any officials on the augusta course but I was watching a girl who passed me on the bike make illegal passes every single time she passed someone. she would come right up on the wheel of the person she was passing and then pull out.Its so frustrating for me...

I have to ask, what makes this illegal?  Assuming she's closing the gap and passing to the left within 15 seconds.  The staggered positioning rule only applies to elites.
