I just a read a post and was somewhat inclined to high jack it... but decided to just post in a dif thread all together.

So "THAT GUY/GAL"  Who's been that guy? or has a good "that guy" story...

You know... that guy, the one who was headed off 100yds in WRONG direction on the swim with the kayak chasing him blowing the air horn!  (Yeah that was me, and I was feeling so good, not bumping anyone, just swimming along...)

Or you know that guy who got back on his bike after the race, gear in his pack and rode home!

... so who has a good "that guy/gal" story?

I've been that guy.  I rode to the tri and rode home afterward.  The distance was not far but I still got a few looks.

And has far as being "that guy/gal", I normally am.  I get enthusiatic about what I'm doing and I do it whole-heartedly.

Yup. I've been "That guy."

My 1st tri in open water, and my very FIRST OWS (not a good idea.)

Ended up swimming so far off course that I nearly hit a pier. The spectators on the pier were shouting to me "dude - WRONG WAY!" I finished pretty much DFL in my AG. (Which was ridiculous, as I was 3rd/33 on the bike and 2nd on the run in my AG!

My first one is only about 5 miles away and had thought about riding there if I didn't have to drop the bike off saturday.  It's literally pull out of my neighborhood turn left drive ~5 miles.

I rode to and from my last half marathon on my road bike because it was only 3 or 4 miles away.

There are two local tri's that also start at the same location, but I haven't ridden to them since I'd be lugging all my stuff plus a wetsuit.

Hey I'm that guy too! I've ridden to our local tri race that is ~5 miles from my house a few times.  I've even ridden the TB to a local 5k & 10k run race.

I saw a "that guy" moment this weekend. Advice: Aero helmets are odd enough to look at during a race, please do not walk around after the event with it on and accept your reward with it as well. This guy wouldn't take it off.

A guy at my first race did that. He had a black helmet and black outfit and sunglasses and he reminded me of the creatures from "Aliens".

Speaking of riding to the race...

I had 3 teammates in my car driving to a race. I didn't realize how much wind-drag all those bikes on the roof caused... and we ran out of gas on the interstate. Fortunately, we were only about 5 miles from the race. We got all the bikes down, rode to the race, raced and then hitched a ride back to collect the car.

Hey, we all needed to warm-up anyway!

...on my first (and only tri so far) I was 'that guy'.....I took a wrong turn during the swim a did not realize it until someone in a canoe came up beside me a starting yelling...I just thought I was swimming like a bad a$$ and had left everyone behind me.....lesson learned; pay attention to how many buoys you have passed before you turn, when i finally got back on course I was about two waves behind where I should have been....oh, the tribulations of a first timer!

I will be that guy in a few weeks for my next Tri...It would take me longer to load the bike in the car, drive there and unload the bike again than to just pack it all on my back and ride there.  Make fun if you must...but while you are still trying to remember how exactly the bike goes on the rack with that clipy thingy and bungee cord thingy...I'll be at home, in the shower already.Tongue out
