Working Farting around at work, clicked on a fall local tri, they've added a "team triathlon" category.  Teams race together as a 3 person team, total time when last one crosses the line.

Drafting specifically allowed on the bike.

Thoughts?  Sounds like it might be kinda cool if you get people that are equal speeds.  Although I would think the marshals would ge a headache chasing around trying to determine who is a team and who isn't

And just imagine the tri-forums the next day - how many stories of drafting would there be?

Sounds pretty cool. Have to practice on the bike a lot more than usual to figure out the drafting....also, you wouldnt want to lose anybody in the swim. Id say that might be harder since you just cant call ahead as easy to tell your team to slow down for you in the water.

Sounds like a fun way to do a triathlon!

Sounds similar to doing the TTT as a team...each race for teams are slightly different...one or ? two are drafting amongst teammates.

It sounds like a pretty good idea.

My impression (and I'm certain that several folks will point out how I'm wrong) is that allowing teams to draft decreases the time differential between fast & slow cyclists.

So a team loaded with 'fish' might be more likely to hold on to more of the time advantage gained from the swim. (So if anyone needs a 'fish,' gimme a call)

It definitely would be more fun than a relay.

They did this at the ITU level this year and it was awesome to watch.  Also, they had a team event at the Canada Games this year and from what I've heard it was very successful.

I would race it if there was a draft certification required and they followed ITU elite rules for the bikes.  The thought of drafting with athletes on tribikes who might never have riden in a pack is terrifying.

The team event at the Canada Games was different though - it was more of a relay style.  ie. One team member did the whole course then handed off to the next team member and so on.

I think it's a neat idea.  Sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

Logistically, I think it might be easier for the marshalls to officiate if it was a separate event from the tri or to stagger the start (maybe have the teams start first?).

I misread the OP; I thought it was a relay type event as opposed to a TTT.

In that case there are a few guys I would give this a go with; still want road bikes as opposed to tribikes but could be an interesting race.
