There is a good chance I may be moving to the Bradenton area (specifically Parrish) and wondering if there are any Tri clubs in the area.

Also, any information on the bike trails in the area would be appreciated.

Thanks

In Parish you'll be between the Mad Dogs in St Pete and the Sarasota Storm (formerly the YMCA Sharks) club in Sarasota.

Both are good clubs.  The Mad Dogs are one of the largest and best-known clubs in the country.  All the members that I have met have been good folks.

The Sarasota club recently split away from the YMCA where it had been founded.  I was a member until about a year ago when I dropped out for personal reasons.  It's an active club that can boast about having Ironman pro Heather Gollnick as a member.

I live on the south side of Sarasota, quite a ways from Parish, so can't comment on any training routes in the immediate area.

Thanks Mark,

I am familiar with the St. Pete Mad Dogs from past races, but haven't heard of the Storm. I'll have to see how far I am from each group.

I appreciate the help.

You are about equidistant.  The Sarasota club meets in south Sarasota.  The Mad Dogs meet all around St Pete.

There are also several bike and running clubs in the area.  The Village Idiots (my bike club) meets at Village Bikes in Lakewood Ranch.  The Manasota Track clubs has events and runs all over Manatee and Sarasota.

Parrish is very rural so there are plenty of roads to ride on out there.  Not super scenic but the traffic is a lot less than in Sarasota or Bradenton proper.

I had seen the rides advertised at Village Bikes. I'll check it out.

I've only visited Parrish once, so I'm still unfamiliar with the layout of the area. However, I know rural living. I'm leaving the Dade City/San Antonio area. Not much out here (which is no problem for me) but there are some great hilly roads for training rides

Thanks again for the help.

Ha!  We go up to San Antonio from time to time to get some hills in....

Yeah, it's a great area. I'm sorry to be leaving, but I'm following a new opportunity!
