I have seen this mentioned in a couple of different threads now. My understanding was that it is against USAT rules to go shirtless at any time during a race. Am I wrong? Also, does shirtless apply to women in sports bras or a woman wearing a one piece bathing suit under her tri shorts?

I haven't seen anything in the USAT rules requiring shirts, and have competed shirtless in several USAT-sanctioned events.

I confess that I have not read the rules but during the racers' meeting before our local sprint triathlon last year, we were told that anyone not wear a shirt would be disqualified. Even though it wasn't a USAT sanctioned race, they said they wanted us to comply with USAT rules. I guess I should go and read the rules. What a drag!

There may be local ordinances that prevail, or it may just be the race directors preference to have mandatory shirts.

Unless the RD for the race says otherwise, shirts are not required.

USAT does not require a shirt... However, CERTAIN WTC races do require a shirt. WTC are Ironman triathlons.
