Hey there,

I just wanted to say, "Thank you!" to whoever thought up this challenge.  I am loving running in the cold.. I was thinking today about how much better it is than running in the heat and humidity of the summer.

I love the sound of the crunching snow under my feet and today I saw about a dozen deer!  Everyone thinks I am crazy, but I am addicted!  Looking forward to earning more points tomorrow as I have a six mile run.

Nichi

Yeah, ain't it grand!? I do run (no pun) into other runners from time to time or I come upon their tracks in the snow (and love it when I see other 'yaktrax' feet marks). I love the wave 'hello' given by other hardy souls at 530 am in sub 20 degrees. And I sure hope running in snow is making my legs faster come Spring (I can hope). Once it warms up around here, there's always a big flurry of peeps out running in the am but for now there's only a few of us in our neon/reflective chill kill clothes.

LOL... yeah, certainly something to be said for those constantly snow covered roads or sidewalks! Like running in 'an actual snow fall' all the time with so much on the ground.

It did drizzle for half my run yesterday.  My fourteen year old saw that it was pouring down rain earlier and said to me, "Hey, Mom, Why don't you go out and run-extra points!"   He is very encouraging...

Hey... I have a question -
What do you guys use for wind speeds if say the 'average' is 4 but there are gusts up to '19' mph?
Guess I never really thought about it as I have used the 'average' but today, MAN OH MAN!! Below zero wind chill temps with fierce head winds gave me an ice cream headache and to keep my hands warm I had to suck 'em up my coat sleeves. BRrrrrrR!

"Neither rain, nor snow, nor common sense!!"

Doctors orders, however, I will follow-no running or snowshoeing(we were going to do that on Sat) until Monday.

Nichi

I would think you could use the gust points for however many minutes you were assaulted by them-we had gusts up to 26mph the other day!

i bagged another 180 point over the weekend but there seems to be something wrong with the spreadsheet?  None of our names are appearing only some of the totals are showing up.  Sheet 2 is intact.

Someone killed it somehow.  Please let us know what happened if you are the responsible party!
I just went out there now and everything was gone. It was there when I posted last, I think that was on Monday.

I posted early on Monday. I don't think I hosed it up though. I just did the same as usual. Anyone else?

I sincerely hope I didn't mess it up.  It was intact when I added my points.
Sorry, if I did.  Thanks for fixing it, Bill.

After four days of enforced avoidance of running, got to run with snow falling!!!
Then, today, my long run turned longer when I lost my yaktrax....and didn't realize it for about a half mile.

Just a little reminder about what can happen when you don't wear enough clothing!(esp. when going on a long run!)

I did have 2 layers on my head, but one of my hoods kept falling down because of the wind-I usually wear a fleece hood and neck thing that just leaves my eyes out-it was warmer the day before and I just wore what I wore then.  I know I lost a lot of heat through my head.
I had mild case of hypothermia last night.  I didn't check the temp before going out and the wind was stronger, too.  Unfortunately, one of the symptoms is lack of judgment!  Anyway, it's better to wear too much and shed than wear too little.  I was not aware that this was happening until I was unable to stop shivering once I came home.  I knew I was cold, but not how serious it can get and how quickly...

I am sure all of you are smarter than I was last night.  Hard lesson learned on my part!  SCARY!!
Take Care and dress warmly!
