For the few how gave input and suggestions before getting my deviated peptum fixed, THANK YOU. For those that held back on the horror stories they have either been through or know of, THANK YOU.And for all of you who held back the horror stories, FEEL FREE TO LET THEM FLY NOW as I'm sure you want to. :-)Story Time:Arrived at 7am and was told that surgery would only take about 15 minutes for what needed to be done. Okay, so my wife waits at the clinic. Sure enough I'm laying in the surgery room...open the eyes and i'm in the recovery room. It only took 15 minutes!!! The nurses are asking me if I remember talking about Jelly Fish. NOPE! The docs knew I was triathlon training and guess I was waking up when he took the tube out of my throat and said something about imagining I was spitting out a jelly fish while swimming. Hmmmmm Then there was talk of sharks...don't remember that either.Should have been out of there about 10am. Didn't leave till 2:30pm. DOH!!! I didn't respond well to recovering from the anithesia (sp?) and the blood pressure was staying down too low. They tried getting me into a recliner and while sitting on the edge of the bed...I HAVE TO LIE DOWN...and back I go into the bed and no clue how long I slept. The doc returns about 1:30p and decides to remove the nose packing...thinking that might be causing me to feel bad. I can't even talk without feeling like hurling. So he removes the packing (described to me as a MINI TAMPON) and sure enough I instantly FEEL BETTER and can actually talk with my wife and the nurses.Spent the night in the recliner last night and will do so for the next week.NO PAINKILLER NEEDED EITHER !!!! JOY!!!! Today I feel good enough that I could have actually gone to work. Not doing that BUT FEEL THAT GOOD!! JOYGASM!!!!!So now that it's over and not that bad overall....LET YOUR STORIES FLY so others can laugh or cringe.

No training for 2 weeks. Am going to ask the doc at that appt next week if I can at least get on my bike, on the trainer, in the living room and pedal real easy just to get some muscles moving. Restriction now is I can't lift anything over 20lbs. Glad our 5 month old hasn't hit that yet. :-)

hey..glad its behind you now. Your wife will sleep better too. (I'm assuming that you were likely snoring up a storm with a deviated septum). My ex-husband had the same procedure and was in recovery for some 13 hours! He gets something called ... vaso-vago (sp?). In spite of him able to play Lacrosse and dirt bike riding where he would come home bloody and bruised, he was unable to tolerate the thought of a needle going into his blood stream, and would go into seizure. He seemed to be able to tolerate getting the IV (i think they gave him a sedative first), but in recovery when you looked at the IV in his arm...lights out!! He looked green and pasty for about 2 days. I remember warning the dr about him having these seizures on the site of needles and the dr thought i was being oh-so cute little prego wifey and brushed it off with a laugh. He wasn't laughing too hard when my ex's heart rate stopped in recovery!

Yah....that huge pack of gauze they shove up there...its amazing. Just think, you'll be breathing so much easier now.

happy healing......

I echo everyone else's congratulations on a successful surgery. I'm sure the little bit of time you are away from training will more than make up for it in the long run.
