Sunny
Total Time = 1h 03m 10s
Overall Rank = 64/192
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 11/21
Pre-race routine:

Race was nearby to I got to sleep in and have a relaxed packing and travel adventure. ate 2 small bagels and cran juice enroute. Foggy morning but the sun broke thru quickly for a fantastic dry, sunny day. Glad I remembered to bring the sunglasses. Wore my BT singlet!! show the colors and see if any other BTers were there. There werent, as far as I know. :(
Event warmup:

light jog, strides, stretching.
Run
  • 11m 21s
  • 2 miles
  • 05m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Cant believe I ran that fast! My watch showed 12:22 which sounds mo' better. Like 6 1/2 min. miles. I dont belive I ran this fast, maybe the course was less than 2 miles. I would feel better with 12:22 but then again maybe theyu are right. HAve to think about this. RPE was about a 9.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

walked thru t-1 as I was spent!!! fumbled with shoes.
What would you do differently?:

jog thru to bike
Bike
  • 34m 49s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.68 mile/hr
Comments:

First loop was good and fast. Drank and did a GU. Hit the 1/2 way mark for the entire race at 29 min. so I was hoping for a sub-1 hr race but knew I had given my all and there wasnt much left.

2nd loop was tougher. Legs lost power and felt my heart rate must have been too high for too long. Pushed thru it but knew there wouldnt be much left.
What would you do differently?:

drink less.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

t-2 was quick. not too many bikes back so I knew I was doing good, but also felt legs were done.
Run
  • 15m 12s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like crap!! Nauseous, too much fluid in stomach, legs didnt get a rythm, too much negative thoughts (actaully thought I was going to not be able to finish) After the first mile I hit a water station and dowsed head with water and began to work on positive thoughts. This and the fact that I was almost done did help to get me to the line.

Dont belive I ran 7.5 min per mile either. Felt more like 10-12.
What would you do differently?:

work on keeping cooler
Post race
Warm down:

dowsed head with water, sat in the shade and ate some ice cream. This cooled me off and got me back into the world.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My training has not been according to any plan. Also, the weather has been so cool lately I was not used to the full sun and some heat.

I BEAT LAST YEARS TIME BY 4 MIN. 5 SEC.!!!!!!! I am happy at that. LOL....I went faster but my rankings stayed right about the same as last year. Competition must be tough.

Last DU of the season, now to add swims!! :)

Event comments:

FIRM does a lot of races but they are all good. Not over the top and not bad. Have to be thankful that they are willing to put on so many races but I really wish they would mark the run courses and maybe a bit more post race activites. Overall, a nice day and event.

Do you realize that 64/192 puts you in the top 1/3 of all the racers? Not too shabby if you ask me!  Nice race Glen, it's all paying off

Damn, Glen... You were on fire! I don't even dream of running sub 7:00 m/miles (never mind sub 6:00)! You Da' Man!!!

CONGRATS on an outstanding race! Even if you did feel like you were running 10:00s... the clock won the argument.

Keep up the good work my friend!

Way to go Glen!! Awesome work on the runs. According to the ranking you put in your report, I'd say that makes you a FOP'er Sorry to read that you had some "unseasonably" warm weather that gave you some trouble, but looks like you survived in fine shape regardless.
