Coronation Triathlon (Super Sprint) - TriathlonSprint

View Member's Race Log
Edmonton, Alberta
Canada
12C / 54F
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 47m 57s
Overall Rank = 96/343
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 18/49
Pre-race routine:

Typical breakfast - oatmeal, bagel, banana, coffee, water
Beautiful morning - 12C, sunny, a little breezy

woke up with a headache... thankfully was gone by the start of the race
Event warmup:

light streching
light jog
Swim
  • 20m 44s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim felt really good - front crawl the entire swim
Was held up a few times because of all the bodies in my lane (6 other swimmers). Think I could've gone faster. Felt great coming out of the pool.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder next time.
Keep the nice relaxed stroke though.

Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

pretty happy with T1, no real problems, pretty quick
Bike
  • 51m 13s
  • 24 kms
  • 28.12 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Could've / should've pushed the pace... I got into too much of a plodding rhythm (scared of burning out my legs I guess). I will push harder next time
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

good T2
had a little bit of difficulty getting my shoes on - socks were still wet.
What would you do differently?:

need longer/better speed laces for shoes
Run
  • 36m
  • 8 kms
  • 04m 30s  min/km
Comments:

run felt good - strong
I didn't wear my GPS pacing watch. I think this helped as I just ran acording to feel rather than pace.

Post race
Warm down:

playing with my two boys who greeted me at the finish :) !!!

Was my best performance and placing yet in a triathlon - very happy with results and performance.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mental limiters!! On these sprint distances, I've got to learn to go all out - especially on the bike.

Good job. I was out there as well for my first tri and loved it! It was a perfect day for a race, expect for that bit of wind on the downhill. I'm glad I got one race under my belt before the World Masters Games this summer in Edmonton.

Thanks... and way to go on your first tri!!
It was a beautiful day, and yes the wind was definitely a challenge (I actually found the uphill portions easier!)

I'll also be racing in the World Masters Games.
I'm doing the Victoria Half Ironman on June 19th (gulp, first HIM distance).

Hi,

We are starting to get a bit of community here from Edmonton and area on BT.

I also did the Coronation race, I did OK I am waiting for official results to see how well I did.

I felt pretty good though.

Great job!!!

We will need to start the BT Edmonton Chapter.

Thanks Roy,
I like the idea of the Edmonton BT chapter!

ResultsCanada actually posted the results this morning, although they listed it under "Running Events" rather than Triathlons. You can find the results here: http://www.resultscanada.com/results2005/2005%20Coronation%20Triath...

Thanks for introducing yourself.

Thanks for the info on where to get the times. It was a fun race but definitely room for improvement.
