Age Group Rank = 27/
Event warmup:

did a 10 minute stretch prior to the race announcements
Swim
  • 08m 26s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

first 150 yds caught a heel in the googles, left goggle partly filled with water. swam the rest of the course using one eye. ran all the way to the transition. the water temp was a little chilly and i was breathing every stroke. the bouys were nice and big which made sighting them pretty easy.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Bike
  • 53m 49s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 16.17 mile/hr
Comments:

the bike went well overall. knowing the course definitely helped with my confidence. having a computer to keep an eye on my cadence and the distance traveled helped me pace myself. i felt like i was able to race the course rather than just trying to survive the bike. the dismount to T2 was ugly. the dismount area wasn't marked that well and i slipped and fell when getting off the bike. didn't hurt myself, just a little wounded pride falling in front of so many spectators.
What would you do differently?:

coming into the transition, remove my feet from the shoes so that i'm pedaling on the tops of the shoes. that way when i dismount, i dismount in my socks rather than the bike shoes. should prevent me from falling and make a quicker transition to my running shoes
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

not what i would consider a speedy transition. I made sure to grab a few large swallows from the second bottle on my bike before i started the run
Run
  • 26m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

definitely need to work more on the bike to run tranitions. legs were a little stiff getting into the run. also need to extend my stride length. i feel i'm taking short choppy strides. i was able to zone on another runners foot pattern and match his foot fall for about a half mile, but then went back to my short choppy steps. grabbed some water at the turn around and had enough left at the end of the run to push it the last half mile to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

different shirt. the long sleeve dri-fit shirt was good but i think that if i would have had a short sleeve or tank top that i would've been a little more cooler. whether or not that would've helped my run, i don't know.
Post race
