Looking for some new sunglasses and I'm looking at Oakley (flak jacket, probably) or Rudy Project (probably Rydon).

Pros/cons of each? I've never worn either brand or style. Obviously, fit will be paramount, but anyone have experience with quality/service/features/benefits?

You're looking at two high end products and companies. Both of them will be good. I have had personally good customer service from Rudy... my wife broke her frames and they replaced them for free (the glasses where almost 2 years old, and they were told that).

Also, I really like the ImpactX photochromatic Rudy lenses.

Most important, go to a local dealer and try them out... bounce up and down a bit to simulate running... and bring your helmet (ok, sounds weird I know...), the fit between the glasses and the helmet makes a big difference... make sure you're not feeling the glasses being push up/down or in by the helmet; this will lead to major discomfort...

I have several pairs of Oakleys.  I prefer either M Frames or Half Jackets for riding.  Flak jackets have a thicker frame on the sides that cuts down on peripheral vision.  I found that important on rides.

Both are high quality products....what sold me on the Rudy (the Rydons specifically) is that the temple pieces are flexible and can be bent into shape if you have any funny fit issues.  I do from previous ear surgeries and being able to bend the temples to fit my needs make them better for me...

I have 4 pairs of Rydons and they are are still very much like new even after a few years of use...

YMMV

Hope that helps,
Paul

I have always worn Oakleys - simply because I wanted to be able to try them on and we just don't have a lot of selection in terms of brands unless I'm willing to drive quite a ways....

I have half-jacket XLJs and I love them.  Plus - for an extra 20$ I got them made in custom colours.

They are a great product and are extremely resilient to all the abuse I put them through.  I've had excellent customer service from Oakley - although it was quite a while ago.  I've had nose pieces and ear pieces replaced through warranty - even though I'm pretty sure some of the damage was my fault....

I'm gonna throw another brand out there for you:  Sziols.

I was looking for comfortable sunglasses that didn't fog up, I could run & bike with & most importantly, either didn't get sweat on them or if they did then not leave sweat residue (really hard to see thru).  Sziols meet all of these criteria.  I'm have a pair of "run" system with active orange lenses.  I'll be getting the darker lenses for Christmas or b-day.

Strongly recommend them.

Link.

I have Rudy's...Freeon Sport glasses.

I have to say these have been awesome. I love running in them, have done a bunch of tri's with them. They don't slip, the materials are high end, and just a great pair of sunglasses for these sports.

Oakley's are great too, as I have a pair of half jackets. My only ping on those, are the dang nose pieces go bad and slip off especially when greasy with sunscreen or sweat.  same for the rubber pieces on the arms. other than that, they have been very good.

I have oakley and my husband has rudy project. Both are great. I just bought a pair of rudy project/rydon for my son for X Mas. They are on sale at Sierra Trading Post for $129 ( I had a coupon and got them for $90) which is a great deal as they retail for over $200. STP has sdome great deals on sunglasses now...oakley, rudy project and Uvex as well.

i have 3 pairs of oakleys.....

i was looking for a new pair for triathlons and had the same question.  but after i considered oakley their product is just so awsome.  and now the fact that you can completely customize a pair of glasses from start to finish i bought the 3rd pair.

BTW i broke a frame and they changed it for me no questions asked.  i had my 1st pair for 10 years now.

I will throw this into the mix.  Smiths they make great sports glasses, i had a pair of their frames for about 5 years they are used for skiing due to the fact that you can interchange their lenses.  great frames.

I have the RP Rydons.  Why Rudy Project?  Adjustable nosepiece.  They are one of the few brands (at this quality level) with this feature, and it makes al lthe difference in getting the glasses to fit my face.

I've got Rudy Kerosenes and I like them.  They're very light and the lenses are good, and the interchangeable lens feature is great.  I've got a few Oakleys (ewires), but I dont have any sports type ones so I dont know how they compare, but overall I prefer the Oakley lenses.  The only downside of the Rudy Kerosenes is that they dont feel like $200 glasses.  While they seem sturdy, they dont really feel like $230 glasses.  They feel very much like plastic and a bit cheap so if I had to pay full price for them I dont know if I would.

Rydon are great sunglasses.  I use the Sportmask for cycling and love them.  I am a huge Rudy fan as they definitely stand behind their products and have nice features.  Sportsmask has the adjustable nose piece and are frameless which is nice when you are aero as you don't have your line of sight impeded.

I am a religious Oakley Wearer, used to have the M Frames which were great, now have the Jawbones. Personally I think they look pretty horrific...but they are really good sunglasses, good peripheral vision, comfortable and the lens really does propel water!! Best piece of adivce, even though it has already been said: Try them with helmet on, my old helemet made wearing the jawbones very uncomfortable!

I've never had Rudys but have had several pairs of various Oakleys. Currently have the M-Frames I wear for riding and really like them. The number of different lens shapes is appealing, as well as the options for tints etc and I find them very comfortable.
