Subject: Best wheels for big guy?
Hello.  Does anyone have an opinion on good wheels for 250 + guys/gals?  I was thinking the Zipp 808 Clydesdales but I read somewhere that they hold the wind...which usually isn't a problem for bigger triathletes.  But I was thinking Easton , or HED 3 or the Jet 60's,   I'd like to keep it around $1200 for the set as I'm not made of money....so any suggestions?

I have a set of 808s and they do catch the wind a little, but the concerns are for those "Ponies" 150 lb racers.  If you are comfortable on your bike, I wouldn't worry too much.  A gal, with whom I train, used them in a race with a fair amount of wind and did not have any issues.  As for cost, Zipps are spendy, and it will be difficult to find a set in your budget.  I also looked at HED 6 or 9s and they too are spendy.  You might want to check a local bike shop that carries either and ask if they have blemish sets.  My local shop was selling 808s for $1650.  I have not seen many of the Clydesdale series selling for anything but suggested retail price, and at your stated weight I would get Zipp Clyd or HED Stallion.

As for other wheel sets, I have little experience with them and would ask others to comment.

Look in the top right corner.  An Icon for 'Search'....

HED 3 wheels are known to be bombproof.  I have a set and love them.

BTW, getting them used is a good idea.  Wheels usually don't get much use, but still depreciate a bit.  I got my set for around 900 on EBAY.

The Hed 3 carbons are good for 210/The alluminum would be good for 250

From a conversation with HED.  I'm 215(dropping) and wanted to make sure the wheels would work.

they can be used everyday

HED 3 from all the reading I've done about them... that is on my wish list as well.

I ride Reynolds and weigh 260.  These things are great.  I raced Beach2battleship with them and these things were just fast.
