Subject: Realistic swim goal? So as I am working on improving my s/b/r base this winter I am noticing that I'm still at the stage where just about anything seems to be working and I am really happy with my current training paces. So I think that I can set a nice goal for next year for my A race (and any race in general, but some of them can have unpredictable swimming conditions) to swim in the 1:40-1:50 (yard) range, or possibly even better. This swim isn't long (1200 meters or 1320 yards) and I'd like to make that pace for just the "in the water" portion since it has a beach run start, a run in between laps, and a long run to transition. I currently am swimming my endurance sets at about a 1:42-1:43 (8:30-35 500), and am thinking if I can do them in 8:00 or better fairly consistently, I'll be on my way to achieving this goal, considering adding 5-10 seconds per 100 yard for my OW pace since this is not wetsuit legal and factoring in no wall pushes and OW sighting issues.
Is this a realistic swim pace to shoot for?(or should I be shooting higher? ;-) The next race for me isn't for 7 months.
If it matters, this race is on a super-calm, crystal clear lake, about as good as one could hope for a fast OW swim. No wake/waves/currents to worry about. |
