From the wall in a 25m pool I can only get to 1:35.  Interestingly enough, though, I generally sit at 1:35-1:40 per 100m in open water, with an RPE of about 6.

1:50, slowest person here =\

I couldn't do a lap 6 months ago though.  Hoping for the 1:30's by mid next year.

Block start 20 years ago swimming DIII: 48.8
Block start 4 years ago at the Las Vegas Corporate Challenge off no training: 57.x

I have to say, after starting to get back into shape for this tri thing, I'm really impressed with the tenacity the newer swimmers around here show! I'm having trouble holding onto a 1:30/100y pace past 200y these days and getting motivated to get into the pool is tough! I gotta start slogging out some yards... If was still learning how to breath and where to put my hands, I'm sure I'd be very discouraged.

You guys impress the heck out of me with your mental fortitude, keep it up!

Never did a single all out 100m.  Last week I did 20x100 with 20s rest and all were between 1:25 and 1:30 in a 25m pool.

Just got back in the pool today after essentially 3.5 months off.  My scy 100's were coming in at about 1:35.  That's 15 seconds slower than early summer.  Surprises me how quickly I lose speed in the pool.

tjfry - 2009-11-18 2:56 PM Best ever - 44.9.  right now - sub minute but I doubt faster than 52 sec.

Is that for real?  That's near world class isn't it?  Insane speed.

WR for 100m free is around 46 seconds.  44.9 must be yards -- It's still very, very fast.

Flattering, but not even close to world class. 40.92 is the top time that I found (yards), which in a sprint is a few time zones away from what I could pull off. In fact I couldn't even enter the National Champs with that time. BUT if you want to think it's world class then I won't argue!

Since I have ramped up swimming from 25 years off earlier this year I have only done a 50yd full sprint and came in at 28.00.  I'd be faster now.

For 100yds (short course) I have clocked a 1:11 with an in-pool start, swim trunks, and open turns.  Wasn't sprinting it - just a hard interval set.  I need to clock one off the blocks in a decent suit with real turns (I never do flip turns in practice - energy expensive and they don't help OWS).  I figure I could dip under 1:05, but 1:00 would be a stretch.

well I can think of a few reasons why flip turning would help out for OW training, but that will probably derail the argument.

Point being though.. how much time is saved(over OWS) per 100 by flip turning(in a SC pool)?  3 seconds, 5 seconds?

Best time as an adult? 1:11.

I haven't done an all-out FR 100 for a while.

That's pretty freakin' quick.

I'm going to give 2 times. Now if I went hard as I can I could do 2'00' in the pool. 15 years and 10 pounds more ago 0'55" was the summer peak.  Goes up every year. That's still kinda hard to accept.

Hello

I could not swim 25 meters in July.

My personal record is currently 3 min 2 sec but I am going to pool tonight and will retest.  Check the results at 9 PM EDT.

My issue will be that I may go much faster for the opening 100 but over the course of 1000 meters I am averaging out at 3 min 20 sec for 100 meters.  My goal for the winter is to get my 1000 meter average below 3 min per 100 in a pool but at the rate I am improving that may happen in the next 4 weeks then I will set a new goal.

I now have the title for the slowest 100 meter time but I am newbe.   Check my swimming thread out down in the Clydesdale section if you would like to offer some tips.

I  did do a sub 10 minute 400 meter OWS in my last race so I do have race day hope.

I just want to say that there are some awesome people out here.

Some are veterans who've been at it a while
Some are just swimmers who've been at it a while
Some are new participants who've been at it a few weeks

Either way. It's great to see that many people getting out there, putting laps in, and trying for it. We all started somewhere, so don't let that encourage anyone!

And those that have mentioned masters, that is where MY biggest gains have come from. Structured, pushed, hard training sessions. Beats my "workouts in a book" every time. Amazing what feeding off of others can do too!

Keep it up and don't let it get you down.

not really you will get faster, and it's something to think about. that there are always faster people than you, especially the ones that just do one sport.

when I was swimming with our masters group, the one end of the pool was all ex college swimmers, just flying. the other side were us triathletes. I'd finish a workout proud of my new time, then talk with the actual swimmers, and just laugh at my time
