I'm going to be up in Vancouver for a friend's wedding in July, and I need to get a long ride (6 hours or so) in one of the days. I don't want to pay $XXX to haul my ride up there - I'd rather rent a bike. Road or tri - doesn't really matter. I'd prefer tri of course.

Anyone know a good shop where I could rent a carbon frame for a day or so?

No there is nowhere to rent a road bike in Richmond.

I know of lots of bike rental shops in Vancouver, but don't know if they rent road/tri bikes. How about doing your long ride on a cruiser bike.

My friend's wedding is on 7/30, the same day as the Fireworks festival. Most hotels I've seen in Vancouver have been pretty expensive.

I'll ride anywhere - just need to rent a bike, and have someone point in a direction for the ride.

I love doing my training and racing in Richmond... nice and flat. I don't know if I'd be able to survive the hill on the UBC crit, but I heard that Yaletown is flat. Now if you want to do some hardcore cycling you've got to go with Leah.

Seriously though, what size bike do you ride? My LBS (South Shore Cycle in Delta) often gives out loaner bikes (free) if you want to join us for a group ride. We start in Delta and go to Langley/Tsawassen/Richmond or wherever.

I'm about 1.9m, and I ride a 58cm Aegis carbon frame. The ride I'm doing is in preparation for IM Canada in August, and it's one of my last long rides before I start my taper.

I've got no problem going to Delta or Langley for a ride - I just need to find a bike and a route I can ride for 6 hours or so.

How long are your group rides?

You can check out http://www.teamcoastalcycling.comfor info on the group rides. Southshore Cycle sponors the club.

There is a ride everyday of the week, so it depends on how fast you want to go. Sundays are the moderate rides averaging just under 30km/hr if you go in the faster group and go for 4 hours, Saturdays are faster averaging over 30km/hr and go for about 5 hours and Wednesday are the fastest averaging 36km/hr and pulling over 40km/hr on the flats and go for about 5-6 hours. I haven't been on one of the Wednesday rides. I guess it depends on the pace that you want to go.

I'd be willing to go out on a long ride with you if you want to know of some routes and I do have a friend who's doing IM Canada for the 7th time! so you could probably go out on a ride with him, though you'd need to rent a bike for that.

I'm not sure if Southshore cycle has a loaner bike that big. There is a steel framed road bike with downtube shifters that might be close to that size that you could borrow. I could check the size out if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer. I think I may take you up on it. I'm not really looking to push the pace too hard on this ride - a good aerobic pace with some occasional challenges is fine.

A steel framed bike...yeesh! I'll check around and see if I can find someone who rents something a little more forgiving.

Thanks again for your input.
