I will be arriving on Friday and would LOVE a chance to get over any swim anxiety before the race starts. I chose this HIM because it's a point to point swim...and I like Georgia! I just signed a rental contract for a house and I started training two weeks ago. This will be my first HIM and I am very excited. |

There are gates that are normally locked but I don't know if they unlocked them last year or not. If they are locked there is a spot to enter the river about 500 yards from the swim start or you can venture down the rocky bank and jump in. |

I hope with the additions of the 5 new 70.3 for 2010 Augusta doesnt sellout just to show them their getting out of hand. At first we heard they were going to cap 2010 at 2600-2800, now 3500...last yr was 3000? crazy numbers, all the more reason to get your breifing done on friday and relax on sat. FM |

Do they also supply oranges/bananas, electrolytes, gels, wet towels, etc? I'd hate to have to lug around a fuel belt full of gels and electrolytes if I don't have to. |

This will be my A race for the year, pending I get all of my work obligations taken care of come May. That's the thing - I haven't paid, nor am I making a 100% effort until then. After that, I'm gung-ho on Augusta. Sadly, this will probably either put me in a hotel in Timbuktu or outside of the 3500 limit. Man I so want to race this. So, here's to Augusta 70.3! |

Thank you and hope to see everyone on the course. By the time I got to the run course they started to run out of cold sponges when I was about 1/4 of the way into the run. I just kept mine and poured cold water on it that I got from the aid stations and reused it because I saw volunteers picking up used ones and redipping them in the ice buckets to hand them back out. I didn't want a used sponge. I also heard they started to run out of water cups I think??? That however did not impact me so I'm not 100% about it but I think it was mentioned by others. It all just depends which wave you're in. I was in the women's 30-33 wave. |

However, with New Orleans he did start posting on the website how many entrants were available once it became lower than 800. (I believe he did this because he was tired of people pestering him). :-) Other than that just zip him an email and ask. |

Personally thought it was short last year, but that's just my opinion. It was actually short last year by like .1- that's what I was told by someone who helped the plan the event. Apparently the race director knew it was short but decided not to change it. I thought they made up for that distance with the run into T1?? Like you said the transition was very long so it added to the times for sure compared to most. I just asked him point blank if they were changing anything about the course, especially the swim, and he said possibly the swim, nothing definite. Think it is a great course overall. |

I walked across that field today and nothing has changed since it was used as as T1/T2 last year. I'm not sure where the RD came up with his info, but it definitely has not been done. And, IMHO it's very unlikely that the area will be paved or enhanced anytime soon, Augusta has way too many other pressing infrastructure issues than to spend money on a field that is used so infrequently. It is used for multiple rowing regattas throughout the year, but other than the HIM it's not really utilized except as a parking area for boaters using the ramp. |

Way the email was worded; however I emailed the RD again and he stated "the transition area is being reconstructed. City assisting with covering rock sections of field and doing landscaping with plants, flowers,etc." I guess that doesnt necessarily mean it has been done but will be done. I guess we will see. |

Well, I could be wrong about this....I've since talked to two different people with some inside knowledge and found out that the city does plan to improve the site, probably not paving, but resurfacing with better/smaller grade porous stone aggregate. Great news! I'll post when I see more activity there, I usually run or bike that area at least once a week. |
