Subject: Swimming Offseason Challenge
As promised, here is the Swimming Off-season Challenge Template.  The idea behind the Challenge is to generate a more focused approach to the off-season through targeted goal setting.  Hopefully a Challenge will help break up the weekly monotony of training and help generate more camaraderie or competition among members.   The Challenge will run from Dec 1 - Apr 1 (or if people lose interest)

This is an individually designed challenge.  You can play as much or as little as you want.  You can even tailor the challenge to meet your specific needs.  The template is just a starting place.  Hopefully it has goals that span the entire spectrum of athletes in the forum.

How to Play:    If you want to play, I would suggest that you first review the template.  I tried to set it up in a user friendly method.  I would recommend that you post to the specific thread what you want your primary offseason goals to be (e.g. Swim 1500 in under 20 mins).  Then get in the pool and see what happens.  When you are ready to report back, copy and paste the template as a new message in the thread.  Delete the template times and insert your time into the template.  Then in the future, copy and paste your template to keep track of YOUR progress.

Rules: There aren't many. Basically, there are FOUR award levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.  You earn that level once you reach the goal defined in the Challenge.  For instance, if I swim my fastest 100 in 1:51, I achieve Bronze status in that challenge.  I can't proceed to the Silver status until I get the time under 1:45 regardless of how many times I swim between 1:45-2:00.

If you would like to add challenges, feel free to tack them onto the end of the template.  Want to challenge another member?  Throw it out there.  Want to form teams?  Go for it.  The challenge is for YOU to choose what you want to do with it.  The template is merely some guidance and a foundation to begin.

Before I post the Run and Bike, I want to ensure that this makes sense.  Please ask questions if it is confusing and I will clarify in the the additional threads.

Two things:

1) I assume the distances are in yards since most of the pools around here are 50 yard laps.

2) When you say record your fastest times, is that starting today or does that mean go back and look at your posted times on here.

I left the distance for the swim open for interpretation.  I would assume most of us swim in yards but I know plenty who swim in meters.  Yes it matters, but I didn't want to deal with trying to control for the differences.

No.  The Challenge begins today.  No retroactive postings.

Cool.  The meters/yards thing will have the most impact on the "fastest time" part.  You can convert SCM (25 m pool times) to SCY (25 yd pool times) with the conversion below.

http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/results/conversions.asp

I say that individuals posting are responsible for converting their times to short course yards.  For continuous swims....just HTFU and swim the distance in the table (even if it is longer).

Thanks for setting up the challenge!
