Subject: Running Offseason Challenge
As promised, here is the Swimming Off-season Challenge Template.  The idea behind the Challenge is to generate a more focused approach to the off-season through targeted goal setting.  Hopefully a Challenge will help break up the weekly monotony of training and help generate more camaraderie or competition among members.   The Challenge will run from Dec 1 - Apr 1 (or if people lose interest)

This is an individually designed challenge.  You can play as much or as little as you want.  You can even tailor the challenge to meet your specific needs.  The template is just a starting place.  Hopefully it has goals that span the entire spectrum of athletes in the forum.

How to Play:    If you want to play, I would suggest that you first review the template.  I tried to set it up in a user friendly method.  I would recommend that you post to the specific thread what you want your primary offseason goals to be (e.g. run a 5k).  Then lace up your shoes and see what happens.  When you are ready to report back, copy and paste the template as a new message in the thread.  Delete the template times and insert your time into the template.  Then in the future, copy and paste your template to keep track of YOUR progress.

Rules: There aren't many. Basically, there are FOUR award levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.  You earn that level once you reach the goal defined in the Challenge.  For instance, if I run 1 mile in 9 minutes, I achieve Bronze status in that challenge.  I can't proceed to the Silve status until I run sub 8:30.

If you would like to add challenges, feel free to tack them onto the end of the template.  Want to challenge another member?  Throw it out there.  Want to form teams?  Go for it.  The challenge is for YOU to choose what you want to do with it.  The template is merely some guidance and a foundation to begin.

Great idea! Who stamps the approval? E.g. who do you report the results to? Also, does training times count, or only "official races" where the times are postable?

It is totally self-reported and training runs count unless race is noted in the challenge.  As mentioned in the instructions, I think the easiest way to keep track is to copy and paste the template into your reply to the thread.  When you do this you can delete the content and enter your times.  This, in theory, becomes YOUR template for keeping track.  You could then copy and paste your template weekly, monthly, everytime you reach the next level or however often you desire.

Another way to do it, is to just post your goals in the thread and update them as you accomplish them and move to the next level.  No real rules, just play as you go.
