Dean and I are doing a bike/run brick at Bartlett Lake on Sunday, Dec. 20.  We're planning to leave Tempe around 7:00 a.m., and we should arrive at Bartlett about 8:15 or so. We plan to bike out to Carefree and back (about 35 miles round trip), and then run 5-8 miles on the hills around Bartlett.

At this point I think we have three other people coming. Anyone else want to join us?

Have you done 7 springs road? That is right there at the end of the Bartlett road and adds about 10 miles round trip to the ride. Lot of fun. Any interest?

it's part of this route:

The out n back from where Bartlett Dam Rd intersects the route:

It's a real hoot - probably the best this state has to offer in roller coasters for cyclists.

I was all excited thinking this was a SWIM! (not sure I can go out there for just a brick - but a cold water swim sounds intresting!!!!)

I'm on call that weekend, so I can't make it. It wouldn't be a problem except there is no reception in and around Bartlett. That sucks.

You can swim if you want, Jerry! I MIGHT try a wetsuit swim AFTER biking and running. I think I'd want to be able to dash out of the water and turn on the car heater after spending even five minutes in such a cold water swim!

Of course, if we could get Kerri out there, she'd show us how it's done, wetsuit or no wetsuit!

This thread is making me laugh! I was wondering whether to admit that the only reason we're up at 2 or 3 a.m. is that one of us has to make a bathroom run! Otherwise, we were getting up at about 4 a.m. during the summer, but now we get to sleep in until 4:30 or 5 a.m. Yippee! On the Bartlett Lake training day, I just got word that one of our party found out she has to work that morning, so we may be going a little later than planned. Stay tuned...

I really may be up for the swim (however, unlike Kerri I am wearing a wetsuit!) is the water level an issue during winter or fishing boats?

So here's the new plan for Bartlett Lake training day: We get to sleep in!!!

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20
We're going to leave Tempe at 11:00 a.m., aiming for a 12:30 wheels down start time. You can either meet at the Rosenlof's house for the 11:00 rollout and caravan or carpool up, or meet us at Rattlesnake Cove about 12:15 p.m.

Roundtrip on Bartlett Dam Road is 26 hilly miles; for people who want to do more, we can continue up Cave Creek Road to Carefree (another 14 miles roundtrip) and/or do a Seven Springs loop.

After the ride, those who want to do a brick can run out Bartlett Dam Road. Or we can just grill brats and burgers!

Here's a link to Rattlesnake Cove information: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/recreation/rogs/camping/CaveCreek/RattlesnakeCoveGroupSite.pdf

NOTE: a Tonto Pass is required.

PM me if you want to caravan/carpool up and need directions to our house.

Dang. I'd do this with you guys but I have a long run/race scheduled on Sunday. Have fun! I do have to start biking more though... I can't let Dean get too fast for me again!

Yep.. the ARR Desert Classic 30k.

http://www.arizonaroadracers.com/Calendar/desert-classic-30k.php

I signed up for it because it forces me to get my long runs in.

Hey guys, thanks for the ride this morning! I was a joy to ride with all of you and I'm sure I'll be showing up for more of your group rides.

I'm relatively new to PHX and haven't been to Bartlett Lake before. So what is this Tonto Pass thing? Where do I purchase it? I'm going to try my best to be there tomorrow.

Joe - new guy who started out with a flat.

You can normally buy Tonto Passes at convience stores near there.

However, my choice is Sports Chalet also sells them, and then you can
buy them before you're driving out there.
