I did not want to hijack any of the other treads with this.  I am thinking of upgrading the stock saddle on my Specialized Allez.  I cant decide which saddle to buy. What saddle do you find the most comfortable?  Is there one saddle that is really comfortable for most people or is everyone totally differnt and I am going to have to start trying random saddles?

Whatever saddle you get, make sure you're fit too your bike properly. The past summer I switched to the Specialized Alias in my width. It's like riding a different bike, although I have to say I changed the bars and stem too.

I think you find a lot of opinions. Many LBS have a good return policy on saddles.

Selle SMP.  Best saddle I have ever had (I have the glider), but no saddle is right for everybody.

Specialized Tri Tip is also really good.

You'll have to try randomly.  I suggest the Cobb V-Flow.  At least you get a 180 day return policy.  I ended up keeping and liking mine (and the white is so cool!).

Both my husband and I ride Selle SMP saddles..large cut out very comfy.

Try to buy a new saddle at a place you can return or exchange it as it may not work for you.

I just upgraded my saddle.  I have a local bike shop that let me try several.  I tried some that were in the high 100's and some below 100.  I ended up buying a Terry Falcon  Y which was one of the lowest priced ones I tried.  The point is the saddle is going to be very subjective and price is the determing factor.  Try and find a local bike shop or go on line.  There are several companies that will ship you different saddles to try.  Johnny Cobb of Cobb Saddles is one out of Tyler, Texas.  Terry is is one.  There are others.

Saddle preference is completely individual and like it was previously mentioned, the fit and adjustment can make a huge difference.  Somes saddles feel good level, while other may feel better slightly nose up/down.

Oh and to answer you question, I ride the Fizik Arione Tri2 on my tri bike and the Specialized Toupe on my road.

depends what you are looking for, tri bike is going to be more specific for most folks than road bike.

assuming tri:

is you are after narrow nose, check the specalized toupe or arione tri (or one in that line)

john cobb v-flow is very popular right now.

specalized tri tip is another good choice.

for a cushioned one check out either the profile tristryke or the (bah cant remember the other like this).

last check the sella SMP. between those you should be able to find a good one.

Cobb V Flow...half the price of Selle SMP and great return policy. note that the saddle for your road bike may be different than your tri bike....positioning.Also, you may want to think about heading over to a Specialized dealer. They have a device that measures the width of your sit bones in whatever position you ride. It can help to narrow down your choices. Finally, proper bike fit is a must!

Im in the same boat with road saddles, cant seem to find what works. so far, fizik, selle gel, bontrager inform, specialized toupe-ouch, and the ponza stocker nothing seems just right. I actually have a basic wtb rocket saddle on right now, its funny looking but not too bad a rideits better than the others, but a little too padded and curved, without enough cut out..so the search continues, I think the Cobb saddle sounds like a good one to try..

as good all around road saddle, and even a tri saddle, guys and girls, check out the bontrager WSD race lite. its fairly light, not a huge saddle, med on the cushioning, and fits a WIDE range of guys and girls.

I think this is ^^^ really good advice and the order to try them. Yep I like Sella SMP but it's expensive..price went up a lot between '08 and '09.

I wouldn't try the Adamo as it is noseless and I like to descend standing on the pedals and squeezing the nose of the saddle.

Ditto on being set up properly when trying saddles.

Also, try to get them from a shop that allows returns.

If you're starting from scratch you can try the San Marco Concor or Regals which are very traditional and popular racing saddles. I Have the Selle Italia Flite on my road bike w/ a cutout and the Adamo on my tri bike. A bit of advice, most cutouts cause more issues than they solve. I think the flite works for me because it has no padding so it doesn't deform and pinch.

I love my Adamo saddle, too. I believe it is worth a try. I persionally have not found it difficult to descend on an Adamo, I can still scoot back on it if I need to. Although, near my house there are no descents  longer than a couple minutes. I 've never tried coming down a mountain.

X2 the Selle SMP. Huge cut out, but since the nose drops off, way off, being aggressively aero doesnt feel any different to the bottom end than being upright. Some people have had issues with sore sit bones, but I have ridden a minimalist saddle for 12 years, aside from a brief shot at a Terry Butterfly, and have had no issues with my sit bones.
