Subject: where to buy a race bike in Chicago? and bike type?
Hi Everyone,  Just signed up for the Chicago triathlon and have been obsessed with this website for a week or so now, so much information!  I look forward to getting in the best shape of my life by August, and completing the event in a reasonable time.

Step 1 - get running gear, done!  
Step 2 - get a bike....need help here...

any boke shop recommendations?  I dont want a tri bike yet since it seems i'm better off on a race bike as it is more usable for daily use, cheaper, and all i need for my first tri.

so, any idea what bike/shop to look at?  I know there are a million bikes, and a ton of shops, so not sure what to really look for.  I don't mind spending money, but have no problem buying last year's model on sale either...

Thanks.  I read through that post, but it seemed more geared (no pun) towards Tri Bikes, not Race bikes.  and I thought there were stores possibly excluded because of that?

As for bike shops in the city...I second Get A Grip.  I have some friends that use Wheel Werks out in Crystal Lake.

Keep an eye on craigslist for used bikes.  It will require a bit of patience, but sooner or later a good deal will appear.
