Hello

I am going to sign-up for the Charleston, SC  Harbor 2.4 mile OWS.  (Lowcountry Splash 5 June, 2010)

Right now I think I can safely swim 2000 meters in the pool without stopping.  I know 2.4 miles is a big jump over 2000 meters but I have 5 1/2 months to train and we will be swimming with the outgoing tide.

Thoughts? Experience swimming in a moving current?

Kevin

1.  You have plenty of time to train.

2.  Sounds like a blast.

3.  Tide moving with you - you'll love your time!

Don't you have to come back to shore at some point???

I looked up the course info--it's a one-way, point-to-point swim, right? So the current will be "with you" and you are swimming in the direction the water is flowing. You will have a blast. It's sort of like walking on those moving belts they have in airports--you get an assist and will swim faster than you would without the current. It feels great and you will enjoy it! Good luck with training, this looks like a really fun event.

The clue to start looking for the finish line is the aricraft carrier Yorktown will be on our left.  So when you see the Yorktown start sliding left.

It does look like a fun race.

Hard to miss that landmark seamark. The only advice I can give is that the tide will move faster in some areas than others. Look for foam/floatsam lines on the surface and see which side is moving faster. Its and old sailors trick.

We have a similar race with the tide in my hometown. Its a blast, I manage times there that I will never see anywhere else. You will not regret a race like that
