Subject: RE: Thoughts on wetsuit deal I personally think the vortex is a great mid level suit. I have the sleeveless and have no complaints. I'm planning on ordering the full sleeve next month and that will probably become my main suit with the sleeveless as my backup or if I happen to travel to someplace warmer than Colorado. Don't expect it to be a $600 pro level suit though. There are differences between the top of the line suits and the vortex, just like any other sport. An entry/mid-level piece of equipment will give you great results for a great price. The price to benefit ratio gets heavy on the price side as you look at better suits, but that's common in any industry... similar to going from 105s to Ultegra to Dura Ace. Each step saves you about 8oz, but the cost difference between 105->Ultegra is MUCH less than Ultegra->Dura Ace. If you're looking for your first suit, something that's functional and is the difference between no suit and suit... definitely get it. If you have money to burn... get it anyway and send me the extra money... or consider a more expensive suit which is likely to have a slicker external covering on the neoprene, friction pads on the forearms, and other small features that you might like. The vortex is what I'd consider a no frills, get the job done, kind of suit. But I like it and it fits my budget well.... and it's pretty popular at the local races, lots of people wearing them. |
