Overall Rank = 26/217

Age Group Rank = 4/28
Pre-race routine:

Didn't think I was nervous, but my stomach told me otherwise. Solid food was not my friend. Thank goodness for Cytomax Pre-Formance and Clif Shot Mocha Buzz. I was in the last wave, so I got there right around when the first wave started. Very chill transition area. Limited space b/c I got there late, but I found some room pretty easily.
Event warmup:

Enough running back and forth between the bathroom, race start, trans area...
Swim
  • 09m 59s
  • 400 meters
  • 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

Slow and steady pace. It worked for 1500m in April and it worked for this 400m.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transitions weren't timed and I managed to delete the race from my watch! This one was probably ~ 4-5 minutes. (A huge improvement for me since my 7:00 at Wildflower!)

After exiting the water, you had to run on the beach a little, then up a grass hill, then into the transition area. Wetsuit came off easily. Did the shoes last. No gloves for just 11 miles.
Bike
  • 38m 2s
  • 11 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Roads were open to traffic w/police at the intersections. I was nervous about cars a few times :( (mostly just me being scared - the police were doing a great job). Sometimes it was a little difficult to pass people because we didn't have that much of the road.
What would you do differently?:

Try to go a little faster around the corners. I slowed down considerably and then had to get back up to speed. This definitely impacted my avg speed - on the straight-aways my bike computer was reading between 18-22mph.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, no exact time. But a volunteer said it was fast :)

Did what I missed last time - carried my race belt + hat out with me instead of putting it on in trans area. Still loving the speed laces on my running shoes.
Run
  • 20m 33s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Seemed okay. The trail felt good on my knees, but sometimes I felt a little slippage. Finishing the last ~ 200 yards in the sand didn't allow for a big kick at the end!
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, eat, stretch. Cytomax Recovery drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I did a 25 mi bike ride + 30 min Brick run the day before.

Event comments:

This was my first all-women triathlon. It was a lot of fun! Interesting contrast between this smaller, much more chill event and Wildflower in April. I think I like both kinds of tris :)

Excellent police and volunteer support.

Oh yeah - and we got necklaces instead of medals!

Love the name of the race!  It caught my eye.  You had a really good run for what looks to be a trail run.  And looks like any distance you lost on the swim you gained back on the bike/run.  Good for you!
