I have been fooling around with my wife's Android phone and my cousin's iPhone and am wondering how people think they compare. Finding apps for the iPhone is really easy, for the Android phone not so much. If you are and Android user, where do you get your apps? Is there much selection in comparison to iPhone?

I've always used a Garmin Forerunner 305 and their software. Never really looked at BT's logs. I'll check it out. I am hoping they get a Droid app that will also collect HR data.

Are you searching from a PC or from the phone itself?

Searching for Android apps from a PC via a search engine gets a whole lot of developer "stuff" in the mix and even visting the marketplace itself from a PC left me unimpressed. For whatever reason, it isn't set up to get much of a preview from a PC.

Going to the markeplace from an Android phone is a different story. Lot's of apps available and very easy to access and install. Lots of free options for most types of apps. The integration is all focused on getting to the apps from the platform that uses them it seems.

Thanks guys. Found the "Market" button on the google phone. Seems like it has pretty close to the same amount of apps as iPhone, but it is a lot cheaper to get into an Android phone. Any complaints from you guys using Android?

I'm a big fan of Android. The lack of multi touch has been pretty annoying especially after having an iPod Touch, but it's starting to show up in Android apps.

There was apparently some kind of gentleman's agreement between the two companies that prevented GOOG from implementing some features, but it looks like Google is getting serious about challenging Apple on all fronts now that their CEO is no longer on the Apple board.

None...I love it. Using the driving directions when traveling next week. Couldn't be happier with the product, the apps available, the ease of use, the reliability, etc.

The only complaint I have is with the protective cover & belt clip. The cover is great but the belt clip will flip off the belt and the phone will end up in the 'loo. I now use a small Case Logic camera belt pouch with a zipper top and solid belt loop.

My complaints around my phone are related to the phone, not the OS. Android works like a champ & almost all of the apps I've pulled down work great as well. My phone sucks down batteries like nobody's business, so I had to pick up an extended battery & it made the phone much thicker.

Has anyone found a good, quality PDF reader/viewer for the droid?  I've had a couple but I either get errors telling me there isn't enough memory or the file is larger than 1MB.  I finally have BeamReader and I really like it, but its a 10 day trial.  Just curious what else I was missing.

I just use the QuickOffice PDF viewer that was already installed on my Droid. Works great. QuickOffice makes opening any work mail (word, excel, pdf) very easy.

Went to a new restaurant this weekend (well, new to me).  Popped my Droid into the car dock, hit the NAV button and announced, "Navigate to Fogo de Chao in Minneapolis."  It recognized my voice, got the name of the restaurant perfectly, and navigated me downtown.  For free, right out of the box.

It's crazy how good the voice recognition is! Unbelievable!!!

I travel a good bit with work and love the layar app.  Type in where I want to go or what I want to eat, and it tells me how far and which direction to go.

I pretty much hate Google right now.  I work for a small software company that offers mapping and navigation for mobile devices.  Yep, same thing that Google and Nokia are now giving away for free.  I might very well be out of work soon, as a result.

Do no evil?  Well sure, consumers love getting stuff for free, even I do.  But it doesn't seem so benign when your business just had its niche blown up by a gigantic company giving it all away for free.

Things I dislike about my droid (most easily fixed with software updates):

- When in navigation dock, not all menus are made for landscape
- It randomly has mis-touches, especially right after hanging up. I will hang up and it will dial someone #7 on my recent call list.
- When on the phone, the screen sometimes turns on and it mutes the phone with my cheek. Then I'll move the phone away from my face, it will be in another menu. Try to being the menu down from the top, but the screen goes black when I put my finger up there. I have resorted to use a bluetooth headset because it is so annoying.
- Apps graphics and layout from android store are very sub par compared to apple apps store.
