Any takers?

http://toughmudder.com/

Here's what it says to peak your interest:

The Tough Mudder series is being launched because there is not a race in America that tests toughness, fitness, strength, stamina and mental grit all in one place and all in one day. Sure, there are a few races that for thousands of dollars and a week of your life will test these things, but in one day in one location? We don’t think so. Other mud runs like the Muddy Buddy series? Forget it – unless you want to run alongside your 60-year-old grandmother. Tough Mudder is a truly exceptional event for truly exceptional people. Fair weather runners should stay at home.

Marathon running is simply bad for you – FACT. The human body is not designed to run 26 miles straight over hard ground. Unless you are an Olympic athlete, road racing is a guaranteed way to say goodbye to your knees before you hit 40. At Tough Mudder, we want to test your all-round mettle, not just your ability to run in a straight line getting bored out of your mind on your own for hours on end.

Tough Mudder is also about experiencing a true sense of camaraderie that, sadly, is rarely seen outside of the military these days. To get over some of our obstacles you will need the help of others – they are simply too much for one man to tackle alone. Tough Mudders, unlike some other types of endurance racers, are team players; they help out other Tough Mudders. We want everyone to compete, but being a Tough Mudder is also about making sure no man is left behind, not worrying about your race time.

Miami is not close enough?

This looks like the Tough Guy race in England which has been on my list for a while.  Can't wait till the Illinois one next year.  I'll be there.

I wish I'd seen this before my half-mary registration.  It looks like a lot of fun, but I'd have to call BS on the toughest one day event.  7 miles and 17 obstacles is hardly easy, but it's nothing compared to a full Ironman, IMO.  Still, it'd be fun getting back on the obstacles without having to put back on the uniform.

Leadville 100 is a one day event.  Between elevation, rough terrain, and weather I would claim it's tougher.

FACT! Running does not have to lead to destroyed knees at 40...

And I lost my interest for that event right about there...

I'm doing the Warrior Dash as my first ever obstacle course this year.  Might keep this one in mind for 2011.

But I agree, there is no way this is tougher than an Ironman.  Says the average time to complete it is 2 1/2 hours.

They changed the website from 1 week ago.

This was on it earlier "Tough Mudder is the toughest one day endurance race on the planet for participants who have neither the time nor inclination to dedicate their life to competition."

This doesn't sell it very well- it could be re-worded saying: "for busy; easily distracted non competitive people we have the toughest competition for you"

I guess if you were brought up with remote control getting off your AZZ to switch the TV channel could "technically" be the most challenging thing you've done.

My Crossfit gym is putting together a team or two. I'm considering doing it but it is a week after my first HIM of the year and 7-8 weeks before my A HIM.

But in scheme of things, I do fitness for fun so I may just do it as I think it would be a blast. Risk of injury might be a little high.

A co worker of my husband did it last year and said it was really cold...he did one in the fall last  year.

I think right clothing is key but hard to figure out.

Terrible marketing.  Really, too weak in the knees to do a marathon?  But those are hard, especially if you train for em and actually race em.  50ks, 50milers, IMs etc....little longer than 7 miles and 2 hours with some climbing.  However, I would admit that with my current lack of upper body strength and dodgeball shoulder it probably would beat me up and make me sore with the muscles i havent used forever.

What about the water tunnels and walking the plank, won't you be wet no matter what?
Wow, $15 for spectators, I've never heard of that for an event.

The one my gym did in NJ was okay but not that challenging. Folks got backed up a lot so there was lots of waiting in lines at various obstacles. Hope they improve the flow so people can really race it.

I'm doing the one in Englishtown, NJ this November with some friends.  They pretty much go out of there way to say it's not a race.  You should read some of their "training plans"--hilarious.  I expect it should be a lot of fun (in a twisted sort of way).

Seems they forgot about, or never heard of Badwater.

Valmir Nunes went sub-23 hour in '07 and Jurik was done in one day in '05. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a "tougher one day endurance race anywhere on the planet".

(esp. the original 146 mile version)

I would really like to do it but $160 registration + the $15 for spectators is WAY to steep!  They need to check themselves on that entry fee!
