We just bought an extended cab truck this weekend. Obviously, the easiest place to travel with the bike is to put it in the bed.

Do you triathlete truck drivers have any advice on what's worked for you with regard to keeping the bike and the truck from getting scratched or damaged?

Thanks,
Lora

I installed a BedRug in my truck. It's a carpet bedliner. Then I just lay my bike down on its side - both the bike and the truck are protected from scratches or damage.

I also have a hard locking tonneau cover from http://www.advancedfoldingcover.com/. With the bike on its side, I can close the cover and lock it. Then the bike is also protected from theft.

I use the fork mount as well, then i take one of those rubber coated cables and a pad lock to lock it to the loop on the inside of the bed on most trucks.  works really well.

Hello

I drive a Ford F-250 Crew Cab.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to transport my bike and saw this in the back of cycling magizine

Rec-Rac     www.recrac.com

Works great. No drilling, no wood and can mount & unmount the recrac in less than 2 minutes.

My bike stands up in the bed of my truck and is clamped to the side of the bed.  I do have to drive with the tailgate down because I have a tool box in the back of my truck.

Plus I can lock my bike into the RecRac so no worry's about it riding off.

I will post a picture  tonight when I get home.

Kevin

Here is what I came up with.  It drops into the bed and mounts to the bed rails (I drilled bolt holes, then realized I could have just used clamps... ah well).  I measured the drop so it keeps things out of the wind and bugs...

Second pic is with the bike mounted(had to put the back wheel on something as the saw horses are alot taller than the bed of the truck) and the wheel next to it...  I have room I could mount 3 easy I think...

Also leaves room under the front of the bikes to stash gear, and I can run a coated cable lock through frame and wheels.  I also cna use a rubber band hook it on the drop of the bar, through the wheel, and back to the drop so the wheele does not spin as you drive...

So thats what I did...

I use a fork mount that attaches to the bedrail.  I actually leave it on all summer, so far no one stolen it.  No holes and no marks.

Cheap straps from Home Depot. $20 a pack for like 4. String it up around the frame and hook into the metal latches on the lower portion of the inside of the bed. Like a motorcycle.
