Subject: Ironman build up
I am taking part in my second ironman event July 25th, I seriously undertrained last time around. So in the build up training I want to enter 2 half ironman events the first in May and there is a second which is convenient on July 4th. This is three weeks befor the main event, is it too close or will I be ok provising I don;t push maximum effort.  keep training Tongue out

Skip it.  You don't need any HIMs to prep for an IM.  You need steady, consistent training.  An HIM that late likely requires too many pre- and post-race training adjustments to add any value for most people.  You will be much better off out riding 100+ miles that weekend and doing a short run off of it.

Couldn't agree more. An extra long bike with a run will allow you to work on the nutrition and give you that endurance boost on the all important bike.

I agree with most and say don't do the 1/2 ironman 3 weeks before your ironman. In 2008 I did a 1/2 ironman 4 weeks before IMOO. I was told 4 weeks would be enough time but looking back I'm not sure if it was. I had a great run in my 1/2 ironman. 4 weeks later I had a great swim, a good bike and the WORST run of my life. But at least I finished.

I agree with others and think a long ride followed by a run that weekend would be better for you!

That didn't take long, thank you all for your reply's what you all say makes perfect sense and made me realize it was more about me wanting to do that event than use it for training.

many thanks to you all. Glenn
