I've been looking for a trip to take and get in some running. I came across the R2R2R at the Grand Canyon in several spots and thought - that sounds like fun. I've been figuring out when I'd head down.

I was going to extend the offer to anyone looking to run as well.

Planning to fly down to Phoenix on 4/15 (Thurs) and then drive up on Friday. Plan to run on Saturday (4/17). I'll see how it goes. I think I can make it, but may turn around earlier if things aren't feeling like I'll make it the whole way.

If anyone says - Heah that sounds fun ! I need to give that a try too ! just let me know.

Mike

Yes - I'm sure I'll write up a good, long report. I haven't been this excited about a run in a long time. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'll there with a group of 6 just one week later, doing a R2R2R on 4/24.  I'd love to hear from you after your run about trail conditions and water availability, particularly on North Kaibab.  Could still be a fair amount of snow at the north rim.

Should be a blast!

Here's some info about our run.  We're raising money for Operation Rainbow's efforts in Haiti.

Darn, I'm going to be in AZ from April 2nd through the 11th.  I'm not fit enough for a R2R2R, but am going to do a solo loop, down the South Kaibab and back up Bright Angel, which should be about 18 miles if I cross the river to Phantom Ranch.

I might be up for more later on this year though...I'm headed out to buy a condo in Prescott and plan on moving there this summer, and Canyon time will be more of a priority after that.  I'm far from the fastest guy on the planet...at age 61, more like a tail ender!

For North Kaibab trail conditions, you might try contacting the BRO (Backcountry Reservations Office) at the GC, they'd surely have a snow report.  I'm guessing you might encounter snow up to a foot deep or more at the rim, based on other reports I've read on the web.
