For the first time since February 1st. I still feel discomfort in the Achilles but I've been given clearance to try an easy run.  I'm gonna do 20 minutes.

Congrats and GOOD LUCK!!

Don't push it too hard out of the gate!!!   I know how we all tend to say, "It doesn't feel that bad". Then turn 20 minutes into 45 or something like that!! Injuries SUCK!! ENJOY your run!!

Cheers!!

Wow! I read your post and I feel like a slacker. I did a bit of drills earlier this morning and I'm going to go finish the swim workout this afternoon and finish it all with a run. Now, I really feel like a slacker because I know I'm not running as much as I should be doing. Thanks for reminding me that I need to get my foot out of my arse and start beating the pavement more!

The first time I read that I thought you said: "...try an easy run.  I'm gonna do 20 miles"  My jaw hit the floor for a second.

Good luck with the run, hopefully you'll be cleared to get back at it soon.  Better now than mid-season right?

Slow and easy, then shut it down after 20 minutes even if you feel like you can continue.  Cool down & stretch.  Recheck in the AM.

Good luck

Take it easy and listen to your body. Last time I was starting back from an injury, it helped to remind myself that the goal wasn't to run a certain distance or pace that day, but to be able to run again the next day and the day after that. Good luck and enjoy!

Hey all. Thanks for the support! Well, I did it. It was short and slow (2.2 miles in 22:25 for a 10:11 pace) but relatively pain free. Discomfort yes, but no real pain. I was careful not to push too hard or go too far. I did have all those thoughts about how good I felt and how I could go farther and harder but I resisted. I stretched well before and after (I know, some folks are very anti pre-stretch but I am not) am feel no worse now than I did before the run. I may ice just because but don't feel that I "need" it.

Good job!  Your post inspired me.  I've not run in a couple of weeks and decided that I will run today.

Glad I could help.

Still feeling pretty good. No obvious increase in discomfort the day after. Will do 3 miles tomorrow!
