I just started (and got hooked) on the whole multi-sport thing. Here's my new ride: a Kestrel Airfoil Pro Special Edition. It came with Zipp 404 clinchers, but I took them off before the bike was built so I can sell them as new.  (If anyone is interested pm me). I had the Reynolds tubies you see (they're great) and will probably buy a set of HED Stinger 9's.   I also immediately swapped out the saddle (a Zoncolan trigel) and put on one of John Cobb's V-Flow Plus.

I picked up the bike on Friday night, went out for a short ride Saturday then used it in my very first duathlon on Sunday!  It's a terrific ride.

I got passed by one of those at a past triathlon. I remember thinking "that's a sweet bike" - and he had racing wheels as well. Nice!

sweet ride..

Are these airfoils significantly lighter without the down tube?  Or is weight distributed to the other parts of the frame to give it strength?

It's a Cobb V-Flow Plus.  http://www.cobbcycling.com/cart/V-Flow_Plus_White_C1P3.cfm.  I had read about them and called the store just to figure out which model would be best for me.  Ginger Cobb answered and then told me to call John, himself, on his cell.  John spent about 10 minutes helping me pick it.  Now that's service.  So far, I really like it.  If not they've got a 6 month return policy.

I don't know about significantly lighter.  The claimed weight for the bike with the stock wheels (Zipp 404 clinchers) and saddle (Selle San Marco Zoncolan Tri) is 16.2 lbs w/out pedals or cages.  I think that's pretty light for a tri bike.
