Subject: Severe Shin Splints Caused by Biking ???
I would love to hear any thoughts regarding this. All of my searches have focused on shin splints with regard to running, which is not my issue.

The run is my strongest discipline. I can run pain free 40-60 mi per week. I am knowledgeable about running injuries/prevention. But... put me on a bike and then ask me to run and I will fail epically. It feels like the muscle is ripping away from my shins within half a mile after T2. I am relatively new to biking, and I currently don't use clips. I ride in my running shoes, tucked in on my aero bars. I completed the Miami International Tri last Sunday, but I had to walk/hobble almost immediately   Does anyone know the cause of this?

Thanks

Chester

Have you had a bike fit? If not I'd suggest looking into getting one with a qualified fitter. Normally pain on the bike can be avoided in your position is ideal on the bike.

To find a fitter near you, you could post in  your State's forum and mention the area you live and are looking for a place to do a bike fit.

You can search on BT's main forum to learn more about bike fits.

Yeah, I'll go get a bike fit as soon as I can and see if I'm riding wacky.

Thanks!
